Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • 2007 MK5 jetta

Hi everyone, i have a 2007 tdi jetta, and i am from victoria. i found this site when i was searching for my solution to the problem that i encountered with my tdi jetta.

can anyone help me with this issues.
    1. the car sounds weird when starting, it sounds like it doesn't want to start no matter cold or hot. i thought about the glow plugs, but i searched it up on youtube, the sound is not the same when it is caused by glowplug issues. so i am not sure what is causing the problem. the car do start, but it sounds disgusting and sounds like its gonna die

    2. Also, the speedo area always say the drivers door is open, and it doesn't lock, the issue is not consistent, like sometimes it doesnt show up, but sometimes the light comes up, can anyone help me with this issue
    thanks for reading

Starting issue could just be the battery, have it checked.

The door issue is common on all VWs for the last 15 years or so. The locks have gremlins, yours probably has a broken wire/poor connection from the micro switch which monitors the position of the latch. So it sees the door as open all the time, it won't lock when the door is open.
If you are handy with a soldering iron then pull out the tools or get a new lock otherwise.

I also agree about the battery. At the first sign of trouble with starting I would replace it. If you do a search on here you will find other discussions here about this topic. Winter is hard on batteries & the TDI needs a strong battery for trouble free starting.
Understand how it works, troubleshoot logically BEFORE replacing parts.

thank you very much for the help and advice!!
however, for the lock issue, i have already changed the lock on that door(not all 4 of them)both the module and the lock. but the issue is still here
and for the starting problem, i connected an external battery to the battery (like when you jump start a car with a car battery), but the problem is still there. so i am not sure if it is the battery problem...
so are there any other possible ways i can fix the problems? thanks
