Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • New to forums & Golf R

    Hi All,

    I'm now a proud owner of a MY13 MK6 Golf R

Black exterior.. black leather.. black 19" VW factory upgrade wheels
    Manual trans

I've only owned it for two weeks and i was planning on holding off on any upgrades however i couldn't help myself.
Just picked the car up from Derek down at European autotech in mona vale... i'm new to the modification scene and i must say that he was great.. very helpful and i'm really happy with their service

    So far i have..;
    removed the silly soundaktor thing
    APR HPFP
    Downpipe
    ECU Stage 2+

I'm thinking of doing the exhaust from the cat back soon and perhaps the vw racing intake however i've heard that the intercooler really isn't necessary.

The car absolutely hammers after the mods... very happy i did this.

    cheers!

VW Racing intercooler? You mean intake i think. Intake design on the R is pretty bad - definitely worthwhile upgrading if you are running a stage 2+ tune level.

FYI there are better intakes available than the VW Racing one (i used to have one and they arent worth the $)

The new Unitronic intake for the Golf R engine looks really good. (Need to source from the US though as there are no dealers here). If interested, hit up Speedlife Motorsport in USA to send one over to you.

I have the AmD/AS Performance intake on mine and love it. Imported from the UK there are no dealers here. Ive got mine mounted with a carbon fibre airbox shroud and it looks great and performs great too.

NeuSpeed P-Flo is another good choice (about 1/2 the price of the others listed above). Speedlife Motorsport once again for this one.

Another option to look into is the CTS intake from DubAddiction and the Volant intake from Tarmac Engineering.
