  • Golf GTI MK 2 - Help needed

    Hi all,

I purchased Victors MK2 GTI Friday night and limped it back from Sydney to Brisbane today. I snapped a gearbox linkage on Pennant Hills Road!!

I need help finding where I can purchase the plastic gearbox linkage that enables 1st, 2nd, Reverse and 5th.

Not a pleasant drive praying for lights to stay green!!

    Appreciate anyone's comments.

    Thanks

    Peter

You did Sydney to Brisbane using only 3rd and 4th?

And I thought I had it tough driving in 1st gear from Sydney airport to Blacktown (down Parramatta Rd) with no clutch and starting the car in 1st.

You might be able to get one from one of the VW shops in Brisbane.
Otherwise check with maybe Camden GTi- if he has it in stock.

If you can wait a bit, I'd order a complete rebuild kit online from German Auto Parts in America and combine it with a bunch of other goodies you might need.

(If you do let me know cause mine is rooted as well)

Thanks golfmeup. Makes sense to order their short shift kit at the same time and reduce throw by 30 or 50%.

True sports racer. Only discovered it had broken when I pulled into the Super Centre heading to Newcastle and was wedged in a space where I couldn't get out of without reverse!!

Heading up up the Pacific Highway in 4th certainly revealed a number of manifold and exhaust leaks!!
