Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Buying a GTI is always the solid option. They would be cheap now, less than 1500 quid?

The Haynes won't help you, the diagrams are just not detailed enough. Find someone that can read the diagrams. It's not hard to understand. I am an Avionics engineer so it's easy for me to read them obviously but in 10 minutes I could teach you how they work.

All the information is there on the pages, the numbers across the bottom are the key. Along with the colour coding. They read like a book from left to right. If you print them out, they can be all stuck together and would make more sense.

its not so much understanding them as finding the one i need to look at , am not a complete novice, am a motorcycle/scooter mechanic and own my own shop, and can read most wiring diagrams without any problems, just these are a little different from what am used to,
anyway just bought an online manuel for the golf gti, but would you belive it when you input the vehicle details it does not list my car with my AQY engine!!!! how annoying.
if anyone would like a coppy the download link expires 21st this month so post and i will give you the details.

          Hows it going mate.
Quick question, I'm currently doing a conversion for a golf from a 1.6 to 1.8t.
The 1.8t lump wiring loom and ECU is from an Audi a3. The problem I'm having is that the engine wiring loom won't fit my golf. I've been told I need a hybrid loom? The loom (AGU) is from an audi a3. Golf loom had 5 plugs .. A3 loom has 3 plugs of which only two plug in to the golf fuse box. And it won't run at all.. Not to mention the engine is cable thottle and car was electric. i have been told a 1.8t engine loom from an AGU will work. Others have also suggested the loom needs to be modified to fit my 1.6.se 2001 (it is a 16v)
          Cheers
