  • Reverse Gear Help

    Hiya

My Mk2 golf Gear box was making some horrid noises, I noted the diff was wobbling all over the place with the drive shafts off, so I’ve pulled it out and stripped it down. Diff and bearing look ok, I assume they are just worn so I’ll replace all bearing etc.

The scary part! My reverse Gear cog has chunks missing and is in horrid shape. Any idea where I can get another one ? or can they be restored?
I haven’t found any at wrecking yards in Brisbane.

It’s a 020 type. Any help would be appreciated.

Ps as I will need to undertake a gearbox rebuild any recommended store advice?
Pss I will also be redoing the engine as well, 8v. – bore has only tiniest of lips, didn’t notice it unless I really concentrate. Could I get away with just new rings, bearing etc?

You would be better off sourcing another box and re ringing doesn't always work imho.If the motor was running fine with good even compression I'd leave it if not bore it with new pistons.

You can certainly replace reverse gear. You can still buy them through VW, for around $400.
