Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • ACT Mk6 GTI Problems

I purchased my dream car in 2010. A grey Mk6 GTI manual.
A year later, the engine management warning light came on and the car started running roughly.
I took it immediately to a local dealer. That was 5 months ago. It's still there.
They have stripped down the engine and replaced many parts including sensors, heads, tensioners and timing chain. Still no joy.
VW Australia has been less than helpful on resolving the issues. Their Tech team keep looking at diagnostics (via email) and suggesting fixes but with no success. I've had enough. What recourse do I have? Can I "force" VW to just replace the entire engine? car? Anybody else with similar problems?

That's got to be something that can be claimed on the Lemon Laws

My previous car was a Mark V Jetta Turbo which suffered similar problems over a prolonged period. They eventually replaced the computer which solved the problem after a couple of minor issues.

Purchased 2010 under old TPA 1974. CCA 2010 came into affect on Jan 1, 2011.

See if the dealer can get VW to replace the ECU then - it seems the most likely culprit left.

Just sent a letter of demand to dealer requesting a replacememtn due to "unmerchantable quality" of car in question.

Finally have my GTI back. They replaced the motor which is what I asked them to do after the 1st month of failures to repair. Forgot how good it was to drive...
