  • Double Din DVD / GPS with Reversing Camera ..... I want One

Hey there, i'm looking to update the Head Unit in my '07 Comfortline Golf. New aftermarket DVD/ GPS unit with reversing cameras are available on ebay or from China sellers on the web. Just wanting to know if anyone has experience with them. I do have some experience with them but not in the VW market.

I bought a Chinese RNS510 look alike locally and returned it within 24 hours, it looked the part and had all the fruit but it was crap

what were the issue you had with it? was it just a quality of build or did it promise too much and not deliver on things like the bluetooth connectivity etc.

i was looking at these as well, and posted up a thread - the overwhelming consensus was not to bother - unreliability, quality , incompatabilities etc...
My build thread here: 1.6 sr into 1.8T http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/foru...-8t-63249.html

Appearance wise, it was very good, but the sound and radio reception were terrible

I've installed an Audiosources AS7609 into my wife's MkV Golf. Have a reversing camera which I am going to install when I have the time.
It came with iGo8 which I've upgraded to iGo Primo.

After I fixed a problem with a bad ground on the radio antenna connection I am pretty happy with it. 4x60w amp sounds pretty good in the stock speakers and the touchscreen (8inch) is bright and clear. Navigation works well, is fast and as its configurable and upgradable (software is just on a microSD card) its much more up to date and flexible than the RNS510 in my Skoda. Has multiple voices, text to speech and alerts for cameras etc.

Built in bluetooth works quite well (though no external mic) and comes with ipod and USB interfaces, plus another microSD slot for media.

I would say if you are prepared to hack and fiddle they are well worth it. If you want something to work out of the box, spend 4 times the cash and get a Zenec or Pioneer.

The interface for the media player needs to be improved (it is split down the middle with the file browser on the right giving limited visility to longer file names). I have discussed this with Audiosources and they will consider a firmware update to fix.

Have tested the reverse camera and it looks good, just need to run the cable and install it into one of the license plate light holders.

For $520 shipped with the camera its not bad IMHO...

for me the sound isn't the most important factor, bluetooth / phone connectivity & GPS functionality are paramount. An all in 1 unit that does this , and looks like it belongs there. Unlike things like Alpine produce that look like some bad design competition winner.
This one is sold locally, so i wont have to rely on some Chinese snake oil salesmanVolkswagen, Bora,Caddy, Eos, Passat, Golf, Jetta, Tiguan, Touran, Transport, T5, Polo, Scirocco, INCARMEDIA,

Here is my newby question, My Golf is an '07. What is this a Golf 5/6/7 or is this just related to the year or do models run through more than 1 year?
              Thanks.
