Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • WA Passat TDI MY08 troubles

Been a fan of VWs for a long time, having had several over many years and migrating to a Porsche then the kids came and downscaled to Audis and now back to VWs for both self and wife. Have had a Passat TDI for 3 years, great car but filled with troubles. Have had the DSP and turbo replaced under warranty and now it is in hospital waiting for injector replacement. Currently 6mths out of warranty so nervous that it won't be covered by the factory warranty and unfortunately all those good feelings about VW are slowly drifting away. We shall see.

Has the vehicle always been dealer serviced? This will usually help with the next step:
Have you asked the service department for some leniency/generosity from VAG to consider 'assisting' with costs?

If you don't ask.......you'll never know (for sure)

Print out the Injector failure thread in the diesel section and drop it in to them. It's a common problem, don't be told otherwise. If you have had VW servicing, they should come to the party. Even if you haven't, you've EVERY right to fight for a reduced cost in the least, as these are non servicable parts that would be expected to last a reasonable term. If it goes sour, PM me, there are cogs in motion on this issue.

Injectors fixed but now exhaust emission light on

Like most things, an acceptable result from VW to my injector problem (they accepted claim for warranty even though it was out 6 months and yes, always dealer serviced so guess that helped) meant I didn't come back to this forum. However now my exhaust emission failure lamp is on and I am dreading the impact of more time, money, inconvenience, etc. Thinking seriously now of ditching the beast and going to something like an Audi. Was good for a while but one can only take so much!
