On the 1.9 diesel there is a flap like the throttle flap on a petrol engine. (next to the EGR valve which has been much discussed. I know it isn't a choke, and it isn't a throttle, nor is it for a vacuum operated governor which some old tractors had 50 years ago. So what is it for? Is it a retarder for cruise control? or what?

I thought we had answered this in another thread? It's there to cause RESTRICTION and create a vacuum just prior to the EGR inlet, so that extra exhaust is sucked in at idle and low throttle conditions. It's purely emissions.
