  • Throttle flap?

On the 1.9 diesel there is a flap like the throttle flap on a petrol engine. (next to the EGR valve which has been much discussed. I know it isn't a choke, and it isn't a throttle, nor is it for a vacuum operated governor which some old tractors had 50 years ago. So what is it for? Is it a retarder for cruise control? or what?

I thought we had answered this in another thread? It's there to cause RESTRICTION and create a vacuum just prior to the EGR inlet, so that extra exhaust is sucked in at idle and low throttle conditions. It's purely emissions. It also shuts on stopping to control the shudder on stopping a diesel.
