Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    I have recently bought my first VW - 2008 Jetta TDI. I bought it after living in the UK for 10 years and realising the difference in quality of a european car to the usual home grown stuff. Anyways I am impressed as it is as I expected, a solid, well made car with excellent economy. So recently I have been trying to find a good servicing agent other than the big dealers and have tried a recommended mechanic here in Sydney and this is what the 45,000km servide cost me;
    45,000 service - 2 hrs labour - $345 + gst
    change brake fluid - 40mins - $38 + gst
    Parts;
    VW Oil Filter - $14+gst
    Havoline Synthetic Oil - $58+
    Sump plug washer - $4.17+
    Oil waste removal - $8.11+
    Throttle body cleaner - $12+
    Washer fluid - $4.50+
    Diesel fuel filter - $47.70+
    Pollen Airfilter - $37.90+
    Element air filter - $48.90+
    Brake cleaner - $18.11+
    Brake fluid x 3 - $59.50+
    Battery (000915105DG) - $231+
    So all up it came to $1020.70 inc gst
    It was a bit more than I was expecting but if these parts needed replacing then thats the way it is. He did show me the old pollen filter and it was very dirty so I feel he was kosher.
    This mechanic is Jade Autos in Rosebery, Sydney. If you find this helpful then good or if you know a better place to go please let me know.
