It seems coding is a bit of a black art, I'm a little surprised there isn't an official (or unofficial for that matter) guide on what does what. That vortex thread is nice, but I have always wondered if there was a definative list or book or documentation of some kind of the different addresses and what they do? (across the different model too)

Hi,

Instead of quoting, I'll summarize.

The (3C) Passat and (35) CC use the older 09 and 46 modules. They haven't switched to the BCM yet, since 46 is the Immo. and they don't have a 05-KESSY (yet). Most of the Mk6 tweaks are in the BCM (newer 09 module) but some of the common stuff is listed here for the conventional tweaks: Volkswagen Golf 5 VAG-COM Info

The later production m.y. '09 and 2010 and up (3C) and (35) use similar UDS protocol clusters, HVAC units, Xenon Range, Radio/Navi, etc. So some of the tweaks in my VW Vortex thread are applicable outside of the Golf platform.

The Mk4 is awesome, I have a '02 1.8T Gti, but it is very limited. I like to call this electronically challenged, but simply pure fun to drive (and fix, in comparison to the newer cars)

We don't have the Polo in the US, so I'll admit what I know about them is based on SSP's and scans from the control modules.

Ross-Tech doesn't have a guide on coding because these various modifications depend on which modules are installed in a vehicle. We do dedicate a large part of our focus on label files and they determine what certain modules do -or- do not support via coding and adaptation.

The DIY's with screen shots and specific coding bits have caused problems on the previous generation 09 and 46 modules. For example, if a user with a 23 Byte module is coping coding from a 30 Byte DIY he/she found online, instead of using the documentation found in the LCH, it can cause problems.

Please don't get me wrong, DIY's are a good thing and I'm not against them in any way. The variables on the VW platform vehicles and their coding are where the discrepancies are.

The best thing to do is connect to the car with a battery charger attached and spend some time looking at each modules coding and adaptation options. If you need help determining if something is possible or not, post the complete Auto-Scan so someone can evaluate it.

I have a question in regards to the function of the bit so called "Bi-Xenon Headlights(with shutter) installed". On my Jetta 2010 it is Byte 14 Bit 3. After reading a number of forums, here is what my understanding

1. Ticketing this bit prevents Central Electronic Control Module dimming the headlights. As not like Halogen, HID must be driven with full voltage. Dimming headlights when HID is fitted can damage the blaster.

2. "Bi-Xenon Headlights(with shutter) installed" is for true OEM HID retrofit, this will enable the shutter function inside the OEM HID

3. "Bi-Xenon Headlights(w/o shutter) installed" is for after market HID retrofit, because there is no shutter mechanism.

Just wonder whether my understanding is correct? Also there is no "Bi-Xenon Headlights(w/o shutter) installed" option present on my car. But I do see this option on other people's screen shot? why?

btw, I am using VCDS release 10.6.1

1. Yes I agree, however the cars with factory Xenon lamps have the DRL (Byte 24) coding set to Hex 64 = 100% as well. I have not attempted to alter that for fear that the voltage would actually decrease.

I'll note, when I switch my DRL's to the fogs, and turn off the Xenon (normal) DRL's the brightness does change...but it looks dirty, or yellowish with the fog light projection.

2. Yes and I'll include the stock scan data from my 2010 US Gti below. There is also a bit enabled in Byte 17 for Xenon without separate high beam bulb on the OE setup.

3. Yes, because if you enable with shutter, the high beams won't work.

I'm not sure about the screen shots. The English file does not include that bit, but I haven't looked lately while hooked up live running the German release.

I have read the wiki and I think its the switch as I have checked fuses and they are both intact and the wiring are not open circuit.

Hi, I drive a 2009 Passat r36 and want to adjust the range of the self leveling head lights. Ever since i have lowered the car i do not get the distance on the headlight. Other cars of the same vintage with the same coilovers do not have this problem. Please let me know what can be done to adjust them manually

Dana - I have an MK6 GTI, which I have enabled the Rain Light Sensor to enable the automatic rain closing of windows and sunroof.
Upon scan I have these errors in the RLS, CAN Gateway and Radio. Something to do with phone. the car has dealer-fitted VW OEM Bluetooth unit. Looking at the errors below, what do you think the common issue is - thank you for looking:

Reviving old thread/rudely replying 18mths later... its on a mk4 bora and no, radio stays on after key is removed...
I have since replaced the ignition switch but the problem remains
