Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • NSW How to buy and install a RNS 510 for Tiguan

    Hi All,
My apologies if this has been covered a million times before. I am looking for any advice on where to buy a RNS 510 for my Tiguan and how to install it. The VW dealer is charhing 3500 for this which seems a little crazy.
Can anyone point me in the right direction.
    Thanks

    Go to ebay right now.
Type in RNS510 and buy the one from UK for $1150,
I paid for mine and it arrived in 4 days.

Then it is just a simple replacement and cable connection and a few changes with a VAGcom and it will work as per factory install.

There is a few threads on how to replace it and i will let you know what changes ned to be made via VAGcom.
I believe BAP needs to be activated and the Navigation unit needs to be coded in.
May also need to code for steering wheel controls and dvd region.

Do you need the RNS 510?

We had the choice when we bought out Multivan of either the RNS 510 or a Pioneer AVIC F20BT. The Pioneer was cheaper and has built in iPod connectivity, USB, SD Card and Bluetooth. Even with the full colour reversing camera added in it's cheaper than the RNS 510.

      It looks like this:

We are having a few issues with FM reception (which should hopefully be fixed tomorrow when the tech comes out), otherwise it's a fantastic unit. Very happy with it. For reference you can get the Pioneer from Ryda for $2,500: Pioneer AVIC-F20BT GPS In Dash + install. Mind you add in the reversing camera and the install costs and your not saving huge dollars, but when you factor in the cost of Bluetooth and iPod connection to the RNS 510 you are way in front.

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.
