  • VIC Soon to be P plate with a TDI!

    Hello hello!
I've decided to join the VWW community to show the pride i carry with my car.
    It's a 1995 1.9 TDI golf.

From what i know about it, there aren't many of these in Australia (the engine, not mk3s' of course), possibly like 200 (does anyone know the numbers?). My dad bought it 10 years ago and he'd had to go up to Sydney to get it.

But now it is mine, i chose to buy off him because of its rarity and uniqueness. I'm not sure if it's because it's a mk3 or a diesel, but i am just excited by my car! I'm enthused!

    So here it is,

A bit high off the ground, the springs will be changed so it will sit more nicely and handle better. At the moment it's like a boat around corners.

Although i want to see this car perform better, i have the thought that, not only am i on my P's, but i should be preserving what this car was given due to it's uncommon engine in Aus. From what i can remember, it hasn't had a big mechanical fault and i know changing something will make it want more maintenance.

I've got time to think about what I'll do with it. Should point out that I'm not a mechanic either (i learn what i can from my brother and dad). but i will tinker with it someday...

I do enjoy multimedia and photo-manipulation, so here is a realistic goal of what i would like to achieve.

And here is something i made earlier, because i could!

Bit too low for me though.

One weekend i joined my brother in the Victorian Volvo club's dyno day where i took the German hatchback into Swedish territory. They are great guys, with some great cars as well. But i was intrigued to what my golf would make.

According to Wikipedia, the TDI 1.9 started out with 66 kW; 89 hp @4000 rpm

I hope you like the the car as much as i do. I think i'll be sticking to owning VW diesels in the future, I've been learning to drive in a 2008 mk5 2.0 TDI Jetta and the amount of power compared to mine just amazes me what we can do in 10 years.

    Flat-mango.

Nice car, and don't worry, diesels are all about torque NOT hp. There's plenty you can do down the line to make it a weapon, TDIclub.com is mostly all about the 1.9 TDI engine they mainly have in the USA, and what they can achieve is just amazing. Your biggest problem in a diesel is airflow, both in and out of the engine, and heat in summer, given diesels typically run higher boost pressures than most normal turbo cars.

Yes yes, i gotta start thinking in Nm torque. thanks for the website and the tip. i've got a boost gauge i'm gonna put on so i can see how much it is actually making.

              Hey mate.

I remember you older brother would come on here and spam the joint with Volvo brick content. (Does he own a manual one yet?)

Hope to see you at some of our Melbourne events once you are sporting P- Plates.

Haha, yeah he'll protect the name of volvo to the end. Zoom magazine gave volvos a 6 out of 10 for being a project car, but gave corrola e70 7 out of 10.
                  He was not happy.

Yeah, umm i think both his cars are auto, he'll change it over. he wouldn't be able to help himself.
                  Thanks.

I already have a manual gearbox, just can't find a pedal box and time to do it. The turbo wagon takes up time now. Not so sure about the spamming of the forum so much about the make though, mentioning it once to some people makes it spam I've noticed. Although, the nickname would make you think it.

Anyway, we're stuck on what suspension would be best considering a low budget atm and an urgent need to lower it. And I'm not a fan of cutting coils, especcially if Dad finds out we did that, have to do it properly.
