  • Newbie - Allianz Insurance query

Hi - found this forum last night doing some research on our insurance claim and hoping you guys can help.

Our Golf (07 Sportsline TDI) was assessed as a write off at the weekend due to hail damage and we were offered market value or we could buy it back ($27,200 and $12,000) respectively.

When I went back to have a look at the policy however, it looks like if the car is written off within 3 years that we get a new replacement. Me being a skeptic, I am wondering why Allianz havent picked this up and whether they have a get out clause. The only doubt I can see is that they wont replace with a new car if the "model" has been discontinued. Reading the clause would indicate that "model" relates to Golfs in general which of course are still going strong.

The other thing is that they will only replace if there is availability in Australia. Speaking to the assessor they said they had written off countless Golfs and was wondering whether that would affect demand on new Golfs. Hopefully speaking with VW in Perth today to see what is around

Has anyone had any experience with getting a new replacement and the best approach to take with Allianz. It looks like we would probably get a Comfortline which I think is slightly lower spec, or could we realistically get a GTi?

Thanks for your help in advance!!

    Cheers
    Darren

      You won't get a GTI.
They will match the spec of the car that was written off.

Might want to give them a call re: mk5 -> mk6 replacement as part of their 3 year new car replacement policy.
If you want a car that hasn't been pre-ordered the wait period is about 4 now.

Thanks for that - that what worries me is that VW wont have stock in Australia at the moment and therefore Allianz will get out of it that way.......

The most likely result will be a mk5 of similar spec that is being run-out.
You might get away with a mk6 in similar spec if there is no mk5's.

This is all just speculation however, the best way would be to contact your insurance provider.

Rang Allianz - suspect they have mucked up by the assessor writing the car off without realising that would trigger the new car replacement - may have been worth them repairing it. The person we spoke to wouldnt give any details but said to expect a call to "discuss our options"

              Will wait and see!!
