Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

You have opened a bag of worms I think. What were the pistons? Working out engine capacity isn't hard, wikipedia and google will give you a formula.

Have you had 2 to 3 mm taken off the block??? You need to talk specifics here, that makes all the difference. I think a safer option would be to get another block and start again. You can use any 1781 cc bottom end, carb injection, doesn't matter. Even a late 1600 would work, the bore is the same, just the cranks would need swapping to an 1800.

i agree about the worms the engine was neva to be modded just wanted to go a bit oversize and i was suplied the incorrect piston wich was sent to the machinast at the end of dthe day when the mechanic started to assemble he saw that the pistons were actually 3mm short of the block the rest of my headaches was to get the pistons level with the block thats why the block was decked 0.4mm and the conrods were offset 2mm with larger wrist pins to acommodate that later i found out the pistons are actually 2.0 vw pistons if i could just find the parts salesman he would be sorry a pity he was fired thx for the reply the rest of the engine is std
