Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Google it, should be easy to find. haven't played with it much as i'm away for work but seemed ok when i left. Some random guy has a website with some decent themes, voices, languages, cars and skins "dimka" i think it was, also for amigo software.

Zenec are apprently doing the ZE-NC2010 however i cannot find a supplier in australia and no one that i have spoken to has any in stock.

If you need it, i would be going the RNS unit as they can be had for under 2k now.
It provides all the functionality that you could need and has oem support.
Can also be retrofitted by the dealer as an option i believe.
After doing a lot of research, I've just ordered the Zenec ZE-NC2010. Zenec is distributed via Connects2 - so look for your local Australian Connects2 distributor and they should be able to order one in for you. I ordered mine from thecarkitcompany.com.au. Note they do not keep these units in stock so you have to place it on special order. It should ship in about 4 weeks. Cost wise, I'm paying $1500 which includes fitment and the additional ipod connector cable (part number ZE-NC-IPS. Make sure you order this at the same time if you want it!!).

Other issues about this unit that have been raised in the past are that you cannot get Australian maps for the sat nav. This is NOT true. Zenec don't supply Australian maps directly, but I spoke with them and they referred me to techrific (Techrific Website) who will supply maps in the correct format for the unit. The maps are about $80 I think. Total cost then of fitted, fully functioning unit is about $1600 - which is a big saving on the best (unfitted) RNS510 price I could find, plus there are a lot more features.

Will let you know how I get on once the unit has been fitted.

          Hey mate.
I have a Zenec sitting in the house in a box as i couldn't get the maps to work.
          Everything else worked fine though.

I spoke to Techrific and they said their maps only work with windows mobile devices and wouldn't work on the Zenec unit as it requires aspecial map update process.

Can you let me know if you heard otherwise?
Also can you let me know how yours goes when you get it?

Hi mate - hopefully the maps will work. I've not spoken to Techrific directly, but I contacted 'naviextras' (Zenec's map arm) who told me this:

First of all, thank you for your interest in our products! Regarding the Australian maps and software, please check our Australian distributor's homepage: Computer parts, PC accessories with FREE Shipping anywhere in Australia They can provide the necessary map updates and the latest version of the map of Australia. If you have further questions, do not hesitate to contact us! Best regards, Naviextras Support

Will let you know how I get on!

I got the same response from naviextras a couple of months ago.

I have spoken to techrific and they are saying the maps will not work as they are only for windows mobile devices and the Zenec unit operates Windows CE.

Their website specifies "optimized to run on PDA and Smartphone running on Windows Mobile" which means i doubt it will work.
Hendryk who operates the store advised me of this in our email conversations between 4 June, 2010 and 21 June, 2010.

I would be investigating this and asking if you can return the unit if the maps are not operational.

Thanks - I'll check it out and post back to let everyone know how I get on. I'll probs get the unit anyway as sat nav wasn't my primary reason for purchasing, but it would be a bonus (and an annoyance if it didn't work!)

Hi guys, just by way of an update. I now have the Zenec unnit fitted in my car and with a little bit of trial and error over the past couple of weeks I have finally got the nav working with Australian maps! Yes the Zenec unit WILL work with Australian maps. All you need is a copy of an IGO8 australian map in windows CE format. I sourced mine from this chinese site for $14: Free IGO MAP for Australia NewZealand Free IGO MAP for Australia NewZealand [QL-IG02] - $14.50 : car gps - auto dvd - buy car navigation radio from Qualir
Then you need to follow the naviextras synctool instructions (http://www.zenec.com/uploads/media/Z...ions_UK_13.pdf), and create a USB stick with the updates on. Manually add the maps and data into the relevant directories, as well as the license. IMPORTANTLY you must also copy the IGO.exe file onto your USB stick and rename it navigation.exe.

Works a treat. Hope this helps.

There seems to be alot of different RNS510 clones out there...
Seems the top 2 are the WD5010 and the Zenec? . but which is BEST?

Can anyone tell me if either will give me the following:

                    * Compatability with iphone 4/3Gs - that is not just use as an audio out, but acutally interface with the ipod sytem.. select artist/album/genre/title etc..

                    * A good working bluetooth handsfree phone system

                    * Digital TV tuner that has good reception.. how cast can I drive and still be able to watch TV?

Also what are the biggest sized SD cards I can use ?

Anyone in Sydney that has one that can give me a demo of theirs?
