Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • QLD newbie from Townsville

    Hi all,

I've got a Golf 2002 TDI wagon (yes, it is a wagon, an UK model). I bought it from friends who privately brought it into OZ. I'm very happy with the car, but very frustrated with the cost of service from the local VW dealer (there is only one VW dealer in Townsville). Anything and every little thing cost a fortune. Are there alternatives to the service provided by the dealer? Would you guys consider taking your VW to a "generic" mechanic? Cheers.

hi mate and welcome to the forum. well it depends what you mean by generic. if its someone thats a certifyied vw/audi mechanic then id certainly have no worries doing it that way. pity your not closer to brisbane , jimmy or "jmac"on these forums does services for alot cheeper then the dealerships (with just as much quality) , hell you wanted to do something major it might even be worth your while driving down here , and have a bit of a holiday while your at it. (for the same cost of staying at home and having your local do it instead)

      Thanks mikepologti.
I've found this website with a list of VW service specialists, including 2 in Townsville. Has any one used any of the listed services? Cheers.

best place to post that request would be in the golf section. not many people unfortunatly visit the newbies threads. at least if you post there youll be heard.
