I have had my fair share of VR6's and mk3's. Actually Vw's and Audi's i general.
And almost always take vw/audi with problems than drive a mind numbingly boring japanese car. But again it's just me.

You will enjoy the VW for a short while and end up hating it's faults.
You will more than likely end up with a Love/Hate relationship with them.
If you get a average or bad one.

You should consider a mk2 if it's your first vw. You will enjoy it far more, And do almost anything to it as just about anything is available and damn easy to get. Unlike an MK3.

Not trying to talk you out of mk3's or VW at all, just letting you know honestly.
But the sound of vr6 is Addictive. I would say no drug has a following to even compare too it's sound.

The sound of a VR6 is very, very nice

It's one of the things that got me hooked after just one drive.
