Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Contemplating a Golf Wagon

I need a family car and I think the new Mk VI wagon could be it. My parents have a Passat and a Mk V GTI so since I put them onto to VW years back I suppose its my time to buy in.

    Any advice most welcome.

    Welcome!

While there is a Jetta Wagon and a Golf Variant (wagon) I don't know that either are available in Australia. It's pretty much Passat or nothing.

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

Golf Wagon is here soon. This appears in Wheels Magazine January edition, and in the SMH newspaper car section today. So whilst I haven't spoken to VW directly I am fairly certain we are going to see it soon.

Yep, the Golf Variant is already here (been spotted by forum readers), and I expect it will be on sale from Feb. I am in a similar situation with a young family and unfortunately the Golf GTI is out of the question. Just waiting to see what engines we will be getting, or else if staying within VAG, the Skoda Octavia RS is also a very attractive option. Runs the same engine as the GTI and with more boot space. The Tiguan may also appeal, but boot space is rather limited.

I'm sure you have seen this thread re the Golf variant.

Oh - and welcome to the forum!

Yeah the Skoda Octavia is also a contender for me but that an the Tiguan push over $40k which is really too much for me. I also find myself looking hard at value for money and wondering about the i30cw sportswagon but I know it wont be the same drive for performance, rise, quietness, quality finish etc

          Thanks for the link.
