Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • QLD Which dub

G'day all, I'm trying to decide on which dub, 118tsi Golf with dsg or a diesel Tiguan auto. I sometimes want to go to Double Island Point(on way to Fraser Isl.).I do most of my driving around town(Brisbane).I used to think mazdas and Subarus were good cars until I drove a 118tsi(dsg). Lay down mazeir- Golf by a mile.Golf or M3 sp25. Forester or Tiguan.Has anyone done any beach work in a Tiguan ? Thanks

To be honest, i wouldn't be taking my 30k+ car on the sand as it will get in everywhere and the salt air will find bare metal.
You would be better off getting a bomb-spec 4wd for that.

In the end it depends on what you are going to use the car for and what you want from each of the competitor products.

I'd have a look at a 125TSI Tiguan in auto as well if I were you .... much more suited to city driving than either the diesel Tig or the Golf IMO. And it will be perfect for the beach if you really want to do that to it.....

and with a chip it makes 190kw and eats GTIs for breakfast ....

Nothing like 2.0T and AWD ..... its like a WRX but with quality & class ......

Thanks for your comments fellas,As far as the rust risk, electronic rust prevention would do the trick. At today's fuel prices the 125 tsi would cost a bit over $1000 a year more than the 103 tdi.I need to drive both Tigs to get the feel i suppose. Again, thanks for your comments.
