Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Bobg, you r certainly correct about the R32 does not feel as zippy as Gti or the Gra.. a quick glance at the speedo will tell the whole story.

    If you compare a Type R to a Gti manual, i d pick a Type R.
But once there is a DSG on the table, VW is the choice.

If you can get R32, get it. my 2c

.:R32 rocks. It doesn't feel as "fierce" only because the power delivery is so much more linear. You just have to look at the 0-100 time between the R and the GTI. Personally, I like the surefootedness of the R and the 4wd, as well as all the 'standard' items that are optionals in GTI.

If you want the R, be quick as there aren't many left in the country.

If I were in your shoes (buying new, personal purchase) I'd wait for the MK6 GTI before making a decision.

As much as I love my brand new Pirelli (700km on the clock), I had a mk6 behind me today, and I'd be lying if there wasn't a quiet pang of envy for the new shape.
Nothing to do with performance or handling (as we've only got the relatively sedate MK6 models in oz right now), but purely because it was the next generation!

That is not taking anything away from the Pirelli GTI experience.
It bloody flies, yet is comfortable and docile when you need it to be.
Even the new MK6 GTI won't be as quick out of the box.... if that matters to you

One thing to consider - the tuning options tend to be greater on a forced induction engine like that in the GTI. i.e. significantly more bang for your buck from a software tune or other basic 'breathing' mods.
If you don't plan on tuning or extracting more power, that last point is irrelevant.

Italian exotics aside, I don't think I've heard an exhaust note as nice as on the R32.

          A chipped Pirelli makes 330hp/240kw.

          Keep that in mind.

Hi Mate! I've owned MKV GTI and MKV R32, and one of my mate drive Integra Type R (Header + exhaust + CAI).

In term of speed/acceleration the GTI feel like it outperform the R32(maybe because my r32 has only 300km on the clock) and the integra type R, but I believed that Aus version of Type R with 147kw will not stand a chance against the GTI DSG.

In comparison with the gti, the r32 feel more compose, linear power, quieter and absorb bump better then my gti, but the GTI will give you a better acceleration feel, and agility in the corner.

I think I will recommend MK V GTI here! The price of the MK V GTi is very good now, as the new MK VI is coming very soon (End of this year, or early next year).

Note: My work colleague purchased it 4-5 month ago for 41k drive away with leather, and 5 doors. And it should be much cheaper now.
            Good luck

Mate, are you having buyer's remorse from just taken delivery of your R32?

another thing to consider is if you wanted to hold on to your honda alil longer is the new r20t coming out (the succeser to the r32) no idea of any release date but rumour has it that itll be the 2ltr engine that the pirelli has in it (higher out put engine then the golf gti 2ltr) and will be 4wd. certainly somthing to consider.
