Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • VW Drifting and burnouts - hey what's up!

    Nah just joking.

I thought i'd introduce myself with a light hearted attitude, and mock some forum rules at the same time.

I'm Tim, long term member of R31 Skyline club, SAU, and lots of other forums. I've been a huge fan of the Volkswagens (Especially MkI & MkII Golf) for the last couple of years now. I've always thought Vee-Dubs had an awesome culture, an awesome scene, a rich history, and by far, some of the more insane modified car builds the world has seen. Anyway just this week i had a strike of luck and picked up, in my opinion, a perfect Mk2 Gti.

Matt (LowVeeDub) tells me he lurks on here so im sure you all know the car.

'85 Mk2 3dr Golf Gti, UK Import, Jom Coilovers, BBS RS 16x7 & 16x8, Full Strip and re-spray etc; The list goes on.

Massive props to Matt for the work he has done to get it how its looking now from after he bought it from Golfer (John). And don't stress kids, this thing will never be modified dis-tastefully, the way it looks is perfect. It really is something special that I'll baby around and look after alot.

Anyways, with a bit of luck, i pick her up tomorrow afternoon and i'll get her out for a good photoshoot tomorrow night.

Now i know its not for everyone but i'll chuck some pics up of my other baby which is also my daily.

I believe so mate! When i drove up to have a look at it it was love at first site

Having a hard time learning about the 3A 2.0 K-jet motor it has though, seems there isn't much info on them out there and im a little worried if something breaks im not going to be able to find someone to fix it.

3 Inch Custom Intake, Airbox and Cold Air Intake, all fabricated in Polished Alloy.
      K&N Pod Filter.
      Darkhalf 98RON Chipped ECU.

      Good for around 102rwkw.

      Driveline:
      Manual Conversion.
R32 Box with a few rebuilt bits.
      Short Shift.
      HD Clutch.
      Machined VLT Flywheel.
      New Uni's.
      Rebuilt Slave and master.
      Auto 3.9 Diff.

      Suspension:
      17x8 +20 and 17x8.5 +20 OZ Racing Futura 3 Piece 17 inch rims.

      7kg/mm Front + 5kg/mm Rear Custom Springs.
      KYB Dampers.
      Tein Camber Tops.
      Whiteline Strut Brace.
      WhitelinePLUS Adjustable Panhard Rod.
      Whiteline Front and Rear Swaybars.
      Nolathane Bushes all round.
      RDA Slotted Rotors.
      Unkown Pads.

      6000k HID's + LED Parkers.
      Painted window frames.

You will find just about everything you need (parts and mechanic) on here if something goes wrong with the motor, dont stress. Also can i suggest getting single window doors on the mk2 so it matches the big bumpers.

Ahh cool cool. Single window doors sounds like the go! Finding them sounds difficult heh, is it a matter of changing the whole door or the window glass piece?

Cheers mate, i have a few plans for the Mk2. After reading some of the handeling gear that Venom Motorsport have i think they will become quite good mates with my wallet.

Love the R32's aswell, good looking R33's are few and far between (Bar some of the factory Nismo models, Genuine 400R, GT-R LM Road Going), And R34's are the rich mans machine, usually tastefully modified in a similar fashion.

Welcome mate, make sure you post some photos!

I saw the car when it was still being prepped for paint all those years ago.
