Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • NSW Newbie from Sydney

    Hi everyone.

Bill is the name. Been in Oz just on two years. From South Africa
Bought a Golf Mk 7Gti Performance.

It’s wonderful. Best car I’ve owned. Mine is red and likes to consume Xenon bulbs.
It’s also got the obligatory clear coat peeling on the bumper covers.

I’m in love. Now I need to make it my own

    That’s my intro

    Bill

Hi and welcome Bill. I used to have a Mk7 GTI Performance myself up until about 12 months ago. Mine was still on its original xenon bulbs, so you might have an underlying issue or perhaps you are buying cheap bulbs from ebay/Amazon etc and they just dont last. You need to make sure you are buying good quality bulbs like Osram or Phillips which are about $150 each. Also make sure you are buying 35w xenon bulbs and not the 50w or higher, because your ballast is designed for 35w bulbs. The other alternative are good quality LED bulbs like the Spectr ones which I recently fitted to my Audi and they are great.
