Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • NSW Dieselgate Golf

    G'day people,

I'm a new owner of a VW Golf. I've owned many cars before but never a VW. This particular Golf is a 2010 TDI 103kw mk6 wagon, and as such it is the subject of the dieselgate scandal.

My car has not had the software "fix" and I do love the grunt and economy it offers. I'm insane, I commute 260 k's daily, 5 days a week. With 90% country road driving (not slowly) I get a genuine 4.9 l/100k's.

Has anyone here had the dieselgate software fix and can report differences in power and economy after the "fix"?

    Mick

I have a Tiguan & my daughter in law has a Mk6 Golf both as delivered, refused the software fix & both cars are very economical & smooth running. Don't be tempted to have it "fixed".
Understand how it works, troubleshoot logically BEFORE replacing parts.

I don't want to have it "fixed" but I do believe the Vic state government will force you to have it fixed. The car is currently registered in the ACT and I'm changing it to NSW. Just in case the NSW gov forces me to have it "fixed" I was wondering if putting up a fight would be worth it.

I would do everything you can to avoid having the cars software updated (avoid taking it to the VW dealer). The revised software reduces engine performance, so thats not something anyone wants.

First i have heard of anyone being 'forced' to have the software updated, regardless of which state they live in - you should look into that because I dont recall anyone on here making that comment before.

          Apparently VicRoads might.

That news article is from 8 years ago when the dieselgate scandal was in all the media. Its all been forgotton now.

If it comes to that though, get it remapped and then you get more power and torque but slightly better economy anyway. The 103TDI goes up to about 125-130kw and 380-400nm with a half decent remap.

Yes, it was from a while ago but governments have long memories. Here's hoping.

That re-map sounds great, I like the idea of 380 - 400 nm of torque and better economy. Can I get that done to my currently "unfixed" stock TDI Golf?

Yes you can. Where are abouts are you located? Your profile says Harden NSW, but you mention VIC govt in this thread.

If we know where you live (approx location) then we can recommend the most suitable option for tuning. But if you do live in Harden, then the most convenient option would be to take a day off work and drive to Canberra and to to Canberra VW Centre to get a Racingline OEM+ tune. How do I find a RacingLine dealer? | RacingLine Dealers

                  Canberra VW Centre
2 Park Street Belconnen ACT 2617
                  02 6253 1481
                  service@cvwc.com.au

And another option in Canberra is Northside Euros for an APR tune.

                  Northside European
                  4/76 Darling Street
                  Mitchell ACT 2911

                  northsideeuros.com.au
                  service@northsideeuros.com.au
                  02 6241 1111

As another option, if you ever go to Sydney consider this one which gets a bit more out of the engine than the previously mentioned tunes: +40% power with Stage 1 ECU Remap on Volkswagen Golf 2.0 TDI CR 103 KW (2009-2012)

And finally, if you ever venture down to Melbourne, then 3bar do a lot of European diesel tuning https://3bar.com.au/tuning-inner.php...201&go=GO#goto

                    Excellent!! Thanks Lucas_R, much appreciated.

I live in Harden NSW and work in Canberra (commute daily). I mentioned the Vic government because I wondered if the NSW government might do the sam (regarding forcing an owner to have their dieselgate VW "Fixed".

I'll definitely check those options out.

Don't get the remap before the "Fix" or the fix will wipe ot off.

"Fix" first, get your roadworthy slip, and then Fix it afterwards
