Newbie Polo GTI project

    VIC Newbie Polo GTI project

    Hi guys,
    Just joined and fingers crossed might be undertaking an interesting VW project soon.
    I own a written off 2017 POLO GTI 1.8 manual and am researching if these mechanicals can be fitted into any 6R Polo (2010-201 body or maybe just the later series 6R ones 2014-2018??? I do expect that if I was able to put GTI bits into an early Trendline body I'd need an engineers approval.

    Absolutely can be done.

    It is the same chassis and everything can be transplanted across without much difficulty. It is a big job though.

    Guy from Harding Performance has done this for his son; transplanted a 6C GTI's components into a 2-door 6R. I have seen this car since the conversion and its pretty cool (and unique).

    Not too sure about the engineers certificate, I can ask next time I see him.

      I'm in Melbourne and so must go begging to VICROADS for permission to breathe etc
      In theory Vicroads regs say you can fit any OPTIONAL engine that was available with that body. Just fill in a form for the change of engine number etc.
      So I did this with a swap I did some years back. Put a Suzuki Swift Sport motor in a plain Jane Swift. Vicroads Dandenong staff went into panic mode. Staff member asked half the staff for advice then phoned all sorts of head office "EXPERTS" to guide her.........
      An hour or so later the Head Office flunkie wanted an engineers certificate.
      The beauty of government regs is that public servants can interpret them any way they like and in this case the chief flunkie decided to screw me. Finding a VASS engineer was fun too because nobody wanted the job. I did get the certificate. $1000 for a one hour job........hmmm
