Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Mk 6 factory parking sensors

Hello my son just bought his first car. A 2009 Golf 103 TDi. It has some minor damage (scratches scraps etc) to the front and rear bumpers. So we are looking for some replacement bumpers among other bits to bring it back to up to scratch. He learnt on a car with front & rear parking sensors so we were wondering if we find one that has factory sensors what do we also need to grab off the car to make the parking sensors work on his car. I have googled and see there is a module under the steering wheel / dash but does anyone know if we also need to grab any wiring looms (other than the ones on the back of the bumper) or anything else from the donor car. I'm hoping that the main loom from the firewall through to the boot is common and the bumper looms just plug straight in.
Any advise would be most welcome.

Hey thanks for that. What I was hoping to find is information on recovering a complete factory system from a wrecked car. It looks like I can find the bits here by picking it apart so I will give that a go. I should have probably looked on the forum for a parts list diagram and it might have had the diagrammatic information I was after which would not only show me what I wanted but where it is located.

Even if you buy nothing, the kits on that link will give you the part numbers you need, as well as a list of all the parts required.

This Golf/Variant/4Motion (GOLF) 2009 year Group Parts Volkswagen EUROPAwill give you an indication of locations in the diagrams as well as part numbers (to confirm).
