Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Hi, I would like to change my standard steering wheel for a flat bottom one like the golf GTI or sirocco, does anyone know if it is a straight swap or will it need to be programmed ,
    Thanks Tom

If you get a steering wheel from another PQ-based car, it should be a straight-up swap if adding paddle's coding will be required. If you want to get something fancy from an MQB car, you will need a LIN adaptor.

Remember to check airbag fitment, and that this era of cars had the Takata airbag recall; check the VIN from any donor has had its recall done.

Did you have a wheel in mind?

Similar to mine would be good, mine has the paddles and radio, phone controls etc, so would I still require coding?

If the button layout is the same and it's from the same generation vehicle, should be just plug-and-play.
