Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Just Found this website - A short post to introduce Moi

Been looking for VW Tiguan website in facebook, for few years and stumble across this site. Looking forward to finding out whats what with VW Tiguans.

Had a 2019 (55k Kms) vehicle very happy with it, received a cold call from VW concierge late May about an early bird option to 'update/upgrade'. After intro at dealership handed me off to sales team who did the pitch, advised happy with our vehicle as it is, any updated vehicle changeover has to be of same configuration, sunroof, heated seats, auto boot, etc. Wife agreed it has to be same configuration or better.

Finalised the purchase for updated 2023 vehicle just before heading away for 2 months, vehicle was garaged while away. Now we are back have started driving it in earnest.

Software was acting up (waiting while seated for screen startup.system looping) some functions were not present in OS. Booked in for a warranty check, the blindspot alert function not working, night time turning light function not working, gear indication does not display (wife finds it confusing in parking lots, light on consul), personal profile not working - the 2019 Tiguan picked up my phone favourites automatically worked seamlessly for 2 drivers.

Service did a software update and attempted to activate the profile for myself and wife's key. After looking up YOUTUBE attempting to configure the profiles he advised the vehicle did not have the software functions or hardware installed for the above items. Expressed my severe disappointment, spoke to sales guy and manager. Sales guy said he had been selling VW for 2/3 years and none had the above items installed! It is a result of the the "great" chip shortage, etc. He apologised for not hearing my request to ensure the new vehicle be configured to the same standard as that traded. I left feeling very annoyed at this excuse.

I have an IT background I know its all in the software, hardware will work if its installed correctly. With all this new tech the systems are nearly all software driven, hardware responds appropriately to inputs from sensors and system software instructs hardware to do its job, flashing lights, closing mirrors, braking, etc.

I wanted an update/grade instead I have a downgrade, very annoyed. Just sent a message to the sales guy advising the vehicle is not fit for the purpose it was purchased. Make arrangements for my 2019 vehicle to be returned and refund purchase monies. 2023 vehicle has 1.5k on the clock, can be returned to stock as demo. Will see how thing go.
