Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Hi All first time on this forum basically I've just bought the wife a used 2014 golf TSI with 130000 ks but has a full service history done by VW just as we done the deal the dealer checked the log book which did not have the timing belt changed at 105 ks ticked so he said as we dont know if it was or not thier going to replace it now anyway at no cost to me (couldnt believe it an honest dealer ? is there such a thing ?) anyhow I said while your in there you might as well change the water pump and they said there is really no need to as it doesnt even mention a replacment time I even offered to pay for it myself but they still insisted I didnt need to , cant believe that either , any how your thoughts would be appreciated and any hints tips known issues etc also what could you expect this car to do in terms of high mieage will it do the same amount of K's again ?
    any help is appreciated
    Thanks in advance
    Dave

I have no experience with your engine but with my van I drove it until it started to leak in the water pump after the seal started to leak.
This was around 130ish K & the impeller was starting to lightly rub in the block.
Some people say the new belts will outlast the water pump. If it was mine, I would replace the pump.
Understand how it works, troubleshoot logically BEFORE replacing parts.

Dont know what the code is but its a 2014 Golf TSI and the water pump is on the opposite side to the timing belt , one other queery weve switched the stop start feature to off multiple times but it still keeps coming back on is this normal as I think its a stupid idea you might save a smidgen on fuel but all your really doing is wearing out the battery and starter motor a lot faster than it needs to be ?

S/S resets after you turn car off but can be coded out to never work again Starter and battery are built to take it. Do NOT take anyones advice to pull a certain wire off the battery as that is the sender for battery charge and if you do that will ruin your battery faster. Despite some saying it wont hurt IT WILL.

Its still under the statuary 3 month warranty from the dealer so I wonder if they would reprogram it for me ? and didnt know about disconnecting it so a big thank you for that interesting that some forums say it will reduce battery life span and some dont which is another reason I'd like it permanently gone I honestly cant see that s/s constanly does any good for a car just MHO

The dealer WONT reprogram it and will probably deny it can be done Ask if someone in your locality has an OBDELEVEN as it takes 5 mins to do at the most .
S/S is all about emissions rather than fuel saving. My Passat had it and never turned it off and battery lasted ok as did the starter. Forum opinions are like a**holes everyone has one and not all are perfect. Myself Excepted ROFL
