AGM Battery for 2017 Tiguan.. or EFB?

Hi all, I have been a long time vw enthusiast. Recently sold my Skoda Yeti ( great vehicle ) and bought
a low K's 2017 Tiguan. Battery just died.. ( only 30 months old ) and the local VW dealership told me I need same
battery (EFB Flooded Battery) and they want an hour to re-program computer. $560 thank you very much.
My local battery specialist told me I should go to an AGM for longer life and works better with stop start technology.
Big difference in price.. only $365.. Question is.. whats the right answer.. only 2.5 years out of standard battery is pretty
poor. - Vehicle is Tsi 1.4 Tiguan (poverty pack compared to Yeti)

AFAIK you can put an AGM in as the EFB is just a cheap alternative. Doesnt take an hour to reprogram the bloody battery

1hr labour is what VW will be charging you as no doubt that's the minimum amount of labour they can bill out.

Take it elsewhere and pay no more than you need to.I will take no more than a few mins to tell the car its got a new battery.

AGM battery is most definitely the best for stop/start technology, and will last the longest - but also the most expensive option.

I have turned off the stop/start in my car (hate it) and still have the factory fitted AGM battery (car is 5 yrs old), but when that battery dies i will likely buy a non-AGM battery to replace it as its not needed if im not using start/stop.

Diesels usually have AGM's here in Australia.
All others are EFB's.

Genuine Replacement Batteries:
OEM: Varta – 000 915 105 FC (EFB+ Start-Stop) 70Ah 420A 700A
OEM: Varta – 000 915 105 CC (AGM Start-Stop) 70Ah 420A 700A
(dimensions mm: 278W x 175L x 190H)

It may not take an hour to reprogram the battery, but VW have obviously quoted / set a side 1hr to remove / replace and code the new battery.

2.5 years is about right now (unfortunately). Might be a good idea to code out your Start / Stop also...

You could try an put in a Goodwill Claim with VAG, however not sure I like your chances...

The genuine VW Battery will be made in Germany.
The battery you buy from an independent, is most likely Korea / China (even if it is AGM)...

Thanks for the input guys.. Armed with this information went to a local battery specialist.. ironically almost next door to the VW Dealership and he was all over it. He stuck in a 70Ah AGM with 760 CCA and then reprogrammed. Funny bugger said the Tigun was very inquisitive and asked lot of questions but he had no problem doing the whole job in 20 minutes. The installer said the stop start is the problem and very hard on batteries so thats why he installs the slightly higher CCA battery. As Ope126 suggested next time I get a service I'll get then to code out the stop start function. The old battery had dropped a cell and only had 10 volts left to play with..

I doubt a dealer will code out the stop start and I wouldnt even suggest it to one. In fact in the 2020 model they have done something which prevents us naughty ones from doing it Ask in the VCDS section if someone near your location can do it for a 6 pack.
Its 3 mins work to do it with the right gear

So what battery did you have installed from the independent; Varta / Bosch / Delkor / Supercharge / Federal / Excide / Century / Yuassa / AC Delco / Super Start Batteries??? Most aftermarket batteries are 760CCA in AGM.

Varta is the only battery Made in Germany, as they have the biggest AGM Processing facilities in the world.

And yes, the dealers will not disable your Start / Stop function.
Best to hit someone up with VCDS / OBDeleven.
