Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • NSW Golf Cabrio 1998 AGG engine no spark

    Hi guys.
I am in a tight spot at the moment my mk3 cut out on the freeway, towed it to an old friends place in Bateau Bay 2260 NSW, as it will not start

First thing i found was the crank positioning sensor insualation was crumbly and coming apart

So i replaced the crank sensor..... still no start
checked injector pulse with a noid light and they are working, fuel pump circulating fuel
    just no spark
I am thinking the CPS may have nuked the ECU? backfed up the signal cable into ECU?
I have tried a known working coil
I cannot get a pulse on the coil trigger wire (from ECU)

I do however have a spare ecu on its way from a mate, if this then fires the car ( immobiliser will soon stop it)

How can i get the ECU reprogrammed to suit the car key, or does anyone have an operative tool to do the job?

I am open to all suggestions and advice on this as i just put new shocks and exhaust on the car the week before it karked.

    thanks for all answers

    If anyone has
