Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    Howdy

I have recently acquired a 2010 Tiguan 125tsi and am looking at getting a tune on it asap. nice and peppy with the dsg however as its the detuned gti engine i want to unlock its full potential.

possibly the wrong area to post im not too au fait with this forum thing

ive enquired at underground performance which caught my attention as well priced and good quality tunes however they claimed due to being an older vehicle they would only increase power by 20 percent. my understanding is that is within vw spec tuning as theres a 160kw version of the identical engine avaliable.

i had a look on rdtechnik website as well as apr and they quote around 194kw from a tune. if any one could offer some advice as to where the best place to visit in Melbourne for a tune is id appreciate it.

    Cheers

Hi yes the 125TSI is a detuned GTI motor so there's a heap of potential to unlock.

The higher output engine in 2010 was a 147TSI and both tune up to the same point ~190kw at the flywheel.

Understand that UGP are playing conservative and don't want to have an unhappy customer. There's a lot of people running APR on this motor and it's a pretty tried and true.

Otherwise you could go the RD Technik which offers a bit more in terms of customisation (throttle mapping etc). RD Technik also do DSG software for the DQ500 which APR doesn't. There some nice gains in terms of driveability with a good DSG tune - makes both D and S mode a lot more useable as daily driver.

yeah i understand their point of view.

rd technik sound like the way to go. Sport mode is essentially useless as it just holds the gears way too long. so id be very interested in the dsg tune. the engine is pretty fresh with only 70km on it and serviced meticulously

Would you know of any shops that do the rd tune i couldn't find it on their website.
