Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. • VIC Nothing else stacked up as well as the Arteon

Hi everyone, a presumptive thanks in advance for the warm welcome.
I have been looking for a while for a new family car and while SUV's have served me well (Volvo XC60 and Jeep GC, both diesels) I was longing for something that would give me some driving pleasure but was still practical enough for family duties. As anyone with kids knows, you have to keep feeding them and when you do they keep getting bigger, so I also needed plenty of space for my 2 growing boys. Given my requirements, the Arteon was beginning to look like a good fit. In an attempt to keep the other half happy though, we still looked at a bunch new SUV's (new XC 60, Stelvio, Q5, X3, X4) but nothing matched the promise of performance, driver enjoyment and space in the back seats. Thus, I am now the owner of a white Arteon, sunroof and sound and style pack included (though still haven't taken delivery). I am admittedly a bit nervous about the move back to a sedan (Oh sorry VW......I meant to say fastback GT) and inevitably it will require some compromises, but most of the time I think the Arteon will do whatever I need.

    Cheers and thanks for listening.

Hey there, im a Arteon newbie too and loving it! I got mine (oryx white) rline 2.0 tsi 190kw, all options (except sun roof) a week ago and i just cant get enough of it.
I too come from a big car with kids (range rover sport), havent had a sedan for at least 8 years and let me tell you, i absolutely love it. My wife kept the range and i use the Arteon, and now she wants the Arteon too after she tried it!
Its huge inside, actually feels bigger than the range and the boot has nothing to envy either.

By the way, i had many questions before i recieved mine that i just could not find the answers to, like how good is the massage function? Are both front seats fully electrical, how good is the navigation? Does it show turn by turn guides? How far can you zoom in, is the AID navigation view totally seperate etc. If you have any questions, just let me know and ill do my best to answer

Thanks Capuman, glad your enjoying the Arteon, bit jealous as I wont get mine for another week. Mine will be in white too, with the black 20' wheels. I think mine will be pure white though which may be different to yours which might have some pearl in it (sounds nice). In Oz we only get the one spec in the Arteon which is the 206kw engine in R line. Great looking car no matter what the combination in my view.
I agree that it's hard to find good reviews that take you through the detail that normal people are looking for. The motoring media love to talk about top speed and racetrack handling. In Australia those things are (sadly) irrelevant. I really want to know about the (Dynaudio) infotainment features and performance, what its like in its intended role as a GT carrying four people and their luggage and how it stacks up compared to its competition. And yeah, how is that massage function??
I have never been to Gibraltar but imagine you have some great driving roads, enjoy.

I got mine from Spain (Gibraltar is a british colony, almost an island in southern spain), and i could literally pick any combo i wanted
For the car which is great.
The sound system is superb, even at mid volume range it sounds amazing! Really am impressed with it.
One thing you will notice though is that compared to the suv, you will hear more noise from the road/wheels as you are lower to the ground
And the wheels are big, but other than that there is no exterior noise to be heard. It has excellent noise insulation.
The seats are fantastic too. I got the 14 way elec option and can confirm both driver and passenger seats are fully elec but only the
Driver has massage option which is for the lower back but very nice and relaxing. Combine that with the heated feature and its bliss!
The infotainment is also fantastic, it has so much i still havent got round to using it all. Carnet app is cool too although its more of a gmmick than anything else really.
Im thinking of doing a quick youtube video soon to show all these features but let me know if you want to know more specifics.

Howdy Kowalski, basically had the same journey as you it seems, went shopping for an suv came home with an arteon, my 2 boys are 6 and 9 but have my 6’6” genes so that backseat space is appreciated! Manganese grey, sunroof and S&S pack but was tempted by the white. I stepped out of a v8 and I do miss the instant torque.. so I am lightly modding and contemplating a tune, just can’t help myself. This forum is a godsend and check out the obd11.

Hi LRDV8R, there is a OBD11 tweak that you can find in this forum, i believe it puts the car in 'Audi' mode which basically improves the response when you step on the accelerator. Haven't got to test that tweak yet myself but from what the people on this forum say, it improves the arteon drastically.

                - I've done it- my feedback is consistent with the group, changes the feel of the car (for the better)- doesn't unleash mystery-beast power- just alters the torque delivery in a gratifying way.

Cool, ill have to try it at some point.

                  So far i have done:
                  Change of AID (tube version)
                  Added 10 ambient colours
                  Video in motion

Thinking of adding the needle sweep and this 'audi' change. How exactly did you do the change using OBD11, because what i saw were changes with VCDs but was not clear for OBD11. Any other cool changes you know of?

For the 'Audi' change I followed the advice contained within the exchange between dreamensioN and blackpaladin67 here: Arteon VCDS / OBDEleven Tweaks - Confirmed working

Check out this whole thread for heaps of great/easy OBD11 tweaks.

Yeah thanks, tried to follow that but couldnt work out how to get to the last stage where i have to change the 09 to 0A. Went to engine, then long coding..but my long code looks different to that.. so im guessing im in the wrong section lol

Have you tried anything with the soundaktor?

I pulled mine completely out of my Scirocco. Much prefer cruising on the highway without the "fake" sound.

Weird, when i click on the soundaktor in the apps it keeps telling me to make sure the engine is running, which it is... So i cant get it to work on obdeleven. What about you guys?

As for the Audi tweek, ive tried to follow the stepa in the other thread but i cant figure out how to get to the byte part that needs changing. Any help?

Thanks, LRDV8R. Great to hear there will be another one in Melbourne....that makes 2 of us . What dealer did you buy from, mine is coming from Geelong. Get it next week (lease took longer to organise than expected) so if you see a white one, give me a wave. Like you, keen on adding a bit of character so probably looking at following Capuman's lead and doing some low level modding with an OBD11. I'm a mechanic by trade (many moons ago) so don't mind having a fiddle.
I have question about the Dynaudio system you might be able to answer, why are there 2 sd card slots, is it just to add extra capacity (?) and what are the 2 slots in the glove box on the right-hand side (the ones stacked vertically).

Encouraged to hear you are enjoying the new wheels, i'm 6'4 and my older boy has just hit 6'1 with plenty more to come I expect. Bit concerned that the sunroof will eat into head space in the back, might just have to learn to put up with it for a few years.

Hey Kowalski, the sd slots are there purely for extra storage. You can put music, films or map data
