i would actually sacrifice ride height for bigger wheels (ive done the slammed thing before and i hated it!) i still think 16's look small, but have seen some absolute pearlers on here.

im leaning towards a bronze wheel and will take on the advise about the tyre width. whats the width of the rims generally? 7-7.5 i presume.

Im running 17inch rims on my vr6 with 205/40 tyres even with stock suspension at stock height it scrubbed, you have to roll your guards and trim your flares and then you can go any size and low as you want easy as that i see this all the time people fitting big wheels and lowering and they dont touch the guards , my car has coilovers and is daily driven so it isnt stupid low, but look underneath lowest point is 80mm

Your ride stance is PERFECT. Period.

Decksla, don't be put off by the amount of guys on here running 15's or 16's. 17's are still a very acceptable size for a mk3; even if it does come down to opinion for most, they are still mechanically legal and they fit nice with the right tyres. I'd run 17's if I could find the right wheel for the look I'm going for! I've just got a VERY cheap set of 16's, so I took them for now hehe.

The height took about a dozen wheels changes on and off and up and down on the hoist but im happy with the results i run Hotuning Coilovers from evorobin and the wheels are A8 Audi copies with standard mk3 offset (what ever that it) running 205/40 r17 tyres to get it at that height guards must! be rolled and plastic arches trimmed to suit

I wanted to go lower but because of the mk3s rear end setup the lower you go the more the rear wheels tuck into the front of the arches which makes it look ugly and wrong.
Im planning to go up in size after the vw nats look at some 18s

good to see your enjoying your first volksy, and that your also making good use of this forum!

I have a Polo in that green and black wheels look fantastic with it, have you also considered a gun metal grey mettallic style wheel? (but please no chromy crap!!!!) check out the mk3 appreciation thread for some of the best looking mk3's around mate

one thing with coilovers, wheels that fit with the previous strut set up will rub on the coilover springs (mainly in the front) so be careful in choosing the right offset, but lucky for you plenty of people on this forum have already done what your going through now.
