If there is a spam posting from a user, the user and associated posts is deleted. This does not delete threads, just the individual posts. In the main, spammers hit and disappear. They may make quite a few posts when they do this, but the administration facility of the software should be able to get rid of the offending user and all their posts in a single action.
Maybe a better way of getting legitimate registrations is to require an ISP e-mail address on sign up and not accept registrations from people using the various free email services.
