Can I propose a suggestion, from another forum I am on

Any new poster, with less than 5 posts - anything they wish to post must be approved by a moderator before it hits the forum.

Unfortunately, placing a low number limit simply means that there will be that number of good posts made quickly. Having a hign minimum number will just maje it more difficult for everyone else.

I help moderate an engineering forum and there were 3 of us who were trusted enough to take action. Basically, it is a case of zero tolerance. If there is a spam posting from a user, the user and associated posts is deleted. This does not delete threads, just the individual posts. In the main, spammers hit and disappear. They may make quite a few posts when they do this, but the administration facility of the software should be able to get rid of the offending user and all their posts in a single action.

Maybe a better way of getting legitimate registrations is to require an ISP e-mail address on sign up and not accept registrations from people using the various free email services.
