Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • T5 Multivan Smoke from exhaust

I have a 2011 T5 Multivan and I've been having issues with light grey/blue smoke coming from the exhaust. To try and fix the issue I have recently had the turbos replaced and that has fixed the issue slightly but there is still some smoke coming from the exhaust. The smoke doesn't blow all the time. When the engine is cold it doesn't blow smoke, when I am travelling at 100km an hour it doesn't blow smoke, and then every now and then for no reason it'll stop blowing smoke but will always start up again. It is particularly bad when I am accelerating but not so bad when I am travelling at speed. One of the more confusing things is when I only have under 15kms of diesel left in the tank then the van stops blowing smoke altogether, until I fill up. I have been told that the issue could be the turbo (but I have replaced this) or it could be the fuel injectors or it could be a number of other things. Would love to have some advice on this.
