  • ABS/ESP Alert Mark 6 Golf 90 Trendline manual

Hi, Came back to my all day parked Golf a week ago and, on starting up had the ABS/ESP alerts on my screen. I tried a crash stop on a deserted road in the rain and the ABS did not seem to have worked as lock up occurred. The messages have disappeared briefly but come back most of the time. I charged the battery yesterday on my C-Tek for several hours thinking that it may have been contributing to the fault.

Any ideas, as I know if I see my dealer, I will have an automatic fee of $150 for a diagnostic test? Cheers-John

    Doubt the charging did anything.

If you have a fault light on, ABS isnt going to work.

You'll need to get a scan to see why. Doesnt have to be a dealer to scan it. Most Mechanics shops will be able to do it. Just to tell you what it is

A faulty wheel speed sensor is the most common thing that causes that warning and no ABS.

If you want to do the whole thing DIY, get yourself a good scan tool like the OBDeleven, or VCDS, and then you will be able to check the output of each sensor.

Thanks for that. I'll take it to a local VW specialist. Perhaps a little cheaper. Cheers.

Hi, Just a note to say that the fault seems to have cleared itself without any action on my part. Who knows what the issue was- it may come back- fingers crossed that it was just a hiccup in the electronics. Cheers-John
