LOL , Guy wouldnt turn up , I asked him the last 2 years to come and support VW racing and he never showed up . I just find it odd that he races the Golf/Polo in the Porsche drags ???
Im there , hopefully I can finally cut a 7
Actually we have a sprint day on & we had one on last year the same date as Warwick. Being in the Porsche club championship means we try to do all these events.
Just got back from Australia's largest VW meet (Valla VW Spectacular) where we raced our Golf (which is a circuit car - not a drag car).
Funny Bug_racer - I remember inviting you to compete in several sprint events & even your own hometown Sydney Dutton Rally against us, and all you made were excuses.
P.P.S. Our TT already cut a 8 second run down that strip in the Dutton Rally in the pouring rain where Evo's & STI's were cutting 9's & 10's. And our's is a circuit car, not a drag car like yours with undersize brakes etc.
The 1/8th mile is an excellent distance to learn the craft of drag racing for the novice, yet it still gives the pro plenty of opportunity to have fun. And the bonus with VW Warwick is that it is an event for Volkswagen enthusiasts, so there is no pressure to perform - just have fun.
The watercooled class is the class I'm hoping will grow, and with three confirmed entries already, this is a positive for 2008.
Guy and I have spoken about the unfortunate date clashes, but we both know that there are very few free weekends for motorsport activities. I raced with Guy at Valla this year in my drag bug. Yes, you heard correct, the drag bug, and it was a blast. Guy had to back off in one session behind me as that bloody GTi had legs and no passing was allowed, but surprisingly, my drag bug could do quite well around the corners. Go figure!!
And for the southerners who may not be able to make Warwick, VW Portland in Victoria, a mirror image of Warwick, will be back next year on the weekend of 20th-21st February 2009.

The car is not a drag car , its a daily driven car . The only reason it had smaller brakes was cause I had the opportunity to do so before upgrading to larger ones . The car will go out to the drags again once the tune is fully sorted .
Its great to invite me to Dutton , but I cant afford to take almost a week off work on top of the $4k ? entry fee ??? And to top it off I dont circuit race at all , never been on a track (apart from checking the race cars) , so you cant compare my driving to yours . The Seat will see track days once its finished cause thats my level of driving around the track . The S3 is a handful in a straight line , I dont have any experience trying to push 500hp around a track so it wont be going out for a while . The power development for the car is finished and I can concentrate on the 2 VR6's now .

It is now only 4 weeks to driver entry cut-off, and 5 weeks until VW Warwick 2008.
Gate and/or dinner passes, along with additional event information and bumper stickers, will begin being sent on the 1st September. As for Portland in February, your gate and/or dinner pass is now issued with a VWMA lanyard and plastic pocket, to make it just that more difficult to lose. A master sheet of names and passes will be at the front gate this year, so please have everything visible and ready to display.
Rod Penrose Racing has come on board as another sponsor of VW Warwick. Thanks Rod.
Below is a list of the race and event trophy categories for 2008. It's fast approaching the pointy end of this year's Warwick drag racing weekend. There are only two weeks left to send in your paid entries. Early indications are that entrant numbers will be up on last year, so logistically I will not be able to accept late entries after the 26th September, including the weekend itself (last year I turned away two competitors on the Sunday). As you can appreciate, Jo Sinclair, the race director, has much to do to sort the weekend schedule, and a complete entrant list a week before is part of making things run smoothly. So please pass the word around, especially to those still in the midst of preparing cars - it's better to have sorted the race entry first.
Welcome on board Vintage Vee-Dub Supplies from Sydney. Wayne Fenech and Boris Orazem are looking forward to sorting last year's niggling motor problems and setting a decent pace for the two days. In fact the general ground swell is that everyone is keen to go just that bit quicker this year, with most looking forward to the Saturday practice and qualifying to come to grips with new set-ups, and new cars.
The Warwick City Council this week approved the use of the gravel pathways in the centre of Leslie Park for the race cars to be displayed on Saturday morning. As with last year, access to the paths is via Guy Street, and I will be there to direct you in. All other VWs participating in the parade and show are asked to use the designated car parks around Leslie Park. A map is included with your gate passes and info. The first batch of gate passes, stickers, etc was mailed out last week to competitors who have sent their entries in. A further mail run will be made tomorrow (Friday 12th September).
The parade and show in the Warwick CBD help attract more people out to the track, and as Warwick Dragway take the gate proceeds, every extra dollar helps the club improve the track facilities each year.
The large dinner marquee will once again be set-up for the weekend, along with the excellent dinner and breakfast catered for by the Warwick Drag Club. Extra hot showers will supplement the existing track amenities, so there should be very little wait.
Television and radio advertising began last week - I'm not sure that this goes interstate, but it did run five times during last Sunday's F1 coverage here in Brisbane. Both VW Warwick and Dragfest, the club's big end of year event, share the ad time.
Any questions concerning the weekend please email me - editor@vwma.net.au
For the first time on a drag strip in Australia, VW Warwick welcomes Alan Robb and his all electric powered and road registered 1964 VW Beetle! Prepared by Mike Kristen at Custom Bugs & Buses, the electric powered motor produces 85 hp and is whisper quiet. See it run it's first 1/8th mile pass at Warwick.
The dinner for Saturday night this year will be a traditional camp-style oven meal, with the choice of three meats, vegetables and damper and treacle for dessert. The Warwick guys and gals always put on great food.
VW Warwick and Portland are building into events where VW enthusiasts can not only have a great time on the track, but also see some of this nation's most innovative and engineered race and street machines. This year's field comprises a number of new cars and drivers, adding to the great field of regulars that make the trek each year. Warwick 2008 should be another great weekend.
