After doing the VWatercooled Happy Laps for the last 3 years (first one was back in January 2012) and only missed 2 or 3 sessions, I must say the HL kindly organised by Clay is probably one of the best enthusiasts outing (way way safer than driving enthusiastically on the mountains) you can do in the Brisbane area and all of the regulars know the rules and ethics involved (mostly Golfs and Polos and of course plus The Blue Tiguan and The Yellow Citroen
). If you make the blue Tiguan upset, I can guarantee you will never be invited for the next one
For newcomers (especially those with high horsepower RWD), be mindful that this is not a track day session and one of the most hated behavior on any race track (be it a Happy Laps session, QR Sprint, General Practice, TimeAttack or BMW Track Days) is a driver who treats the main straight as a Drag Strip but takes the corners rather less enthusiastically for many personal reasons.
The majority of VWWatercooled (in fact the regulars) HL participants are not so high powered FWD cars who enjoy corners. Often, when a high horsepowered driver is involved, the regulars are disadvantaged when the high horsepowered driver has a queue of other drivers behind him on the corners and when these regulars attempt to overtake on the main straight safely, the high horsepowered driver treats it as a drag strip and so the next lap is another traffic jam repeat.
So, please be nice, follow the rules and observe how the regulars play
