  • ACT Shannons German Auto Display - 22 Sep 2013

The Shannons German Auto Display will be held in Canberra on Sunday 22 September. Club VeeDub (Canberra Chapter) will be holding a VW cruise on the afternoon before (Saturday 21 September), all Volkswagens are welcome. For the cruise, bring your own afternoon nibblies.

The show on Sunday displays many makes and models of German vehicles. It has changed slightly for 2013, in that it will be held at the east / west lawns of Old Parliament House. All cars attending must bring a drip tray, regardless of the age or condition of your car.

The Volkswagen display this year has changed. This years show will be a simple car display to show off the various models, removing the need for trophies (bar two People's Choice awards for Best Water Cooled / Best Air Cooled). The admission fee to show your vehicle is $5, and this will be collected as you enter the show.

We hope to see you (and your Volkswagen) at Shannons German Auto Display 2013. More details will be available at canberravw.com closer to the event.

Well done on moving away from the trophies and having just a fun relaxed show.
This show is as much fun as DOVW and Nats as the location, people and different cars brings a wgole bunhc of fun together.
Im sorry that the strong Melbourne crew will not make it this year,

Anything German yes, but Skoda isn't German (Czech Republic). It's not the group (ie VAG) its the country of origin. We have had them in the past, we'll discuss it for this year and let you know.

That probably goes also for SEAT.

that's what I thought, even though they're only partially German build.

Well if that's the case, Skoda is partially German build (engine/chassis) so I would assume that Skoda drivers will be allowed to join in as a big part of the VAG group.

I assume this is a car enthusiast day???

Going by my past experience with this day I'd be checking with the VW Club before you go to the effort of driving down in the Skoda. Each club seems to have its own set of rules about who can exhibit on the day and it'd be worth finding out for sure if the VW Club will welcome their Skoda half-brothers.

I'd assumed in the past that GAD was run a bit like Auto Italia - if you have a car that vaguely fits the bill then just show up, pay the entry fee and put the car on display - but GAD seems to be more structured than that.

I've not met any of the VW Club officials so my comment doesn't at all reflect on their attitudes, but I found the Mercedes Club at this event a few years ago were pretty unfriendly. I rocked up with our then-new C63 Estate, planning to put it on display and wander around with my daughter looking at some nice cars, but was told by a Merc club official that the Mercedes display was for club members by invitation only.

Needless to say I haven't bothered exhibiting at this event since, though I'd hope that the VW Club are far nicer than the Merc guys.
