Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    I don't usually bother weighing in to the post Happy Laps crap but I want to make some suggestions;

    1. Make Clay a forum Moderator (he's done more for the community up here than most).

    2. Post Happy Laps event I then encourage everyone to share their "positive" comments and great video footage and pics of the morning.

    3. Anyone who feels the need to bitch and moan about anything or anyone should have their post deleted by Clay.

    4. If anyone has any serous safety concerns about a driver and car please see Clay after the event or PM him later so he can take action.

    5. For those that want to replicate a "Powercruise" track session - corner slow and run the 1/4 down the straight please consider not showing up. Test and Tune Wednesday nights at Willowbank are only $40 and on more often than Happy Laps.

    6. Bring in a 1 strike rule for the Powercruise hero's and back Clay's decision to enforce this at his will.

    7. Those not wanting to practice and progress in the corners should stick to mountain runs as the current speed limit at Happy Laps is 120kmph, so if you want to take corners like Stephen Hawkins after your 10th Happy Laps outing then you are in the wrong. Also LS actually offer track cruise sessions so consider those also.

    8. Realise we pay a piss ant $25 for a meal and 30mins on a real track which is more of an opportunity than anyone else gets around Australia or the world for that matter so please take off the skirt.

    Clay for PM

I will back Don up 100%; Yes, he did make the error coming into the carousel caused mainly by some hesitation that came from the congestion, and he admitted he was in the wrong immediately. On many occasions we witnessed driving behaviour that wouldn't even of been accepted on local 60km/h streets; quite nerve-racking at times to be honest. Hopefully from all this discussion, people just take happy laps literally and have some (safe) fun!

          Hear, hear.

Oh and Clay. Please put me on the reserves list. But I'll probably bring a different car this time.

+1 I support this big time.

Apologies for my earlier rant all, I think it was built up by seeing the same thing over and over again.

                    Hey Al.
At this stage i am not forcing people out of happy laps, just recommending alternatives that might suit their driving style/power more.

When we started these things early last year everyone was at a pretty similar level of power/track experience.
Now that we are up to round 19, we are starting to see a significant variance between power levels/grip and driver determination which increases the unpredictability of the event and seems to cause traffic problems unless we have a very limited number of cars on the track like the July event.

As I said previously, these were always meant to be a way to get people into motorsport and then when they are happy with their progress and feel they have hit the ceiling of happy laps, they could upgrade to a more dedicated event such as general practice or a proper sprint series.

In the end there is only so much we can do in happy laps.
I am happy to get some details on the hot laps thing they were talking about last time but i believe the best value for money event for those looking to upgrade would be general practice at $80 for the morning.

Thankyou my dear Happy Laps, you've been there for me right from the start. You've taught me all I know and I will never forget you. Love grandturismo.xx
