Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled
After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.
Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before.
We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

lastly, below is probably the best track / training combo available in SEQ area for those in expensive high powered cars. This helps you to really drive on race tracks.
I have been to this type of driving training days a number of times over the last few years and highly recommend those who are new to race tracks, or even a veteran who loves to keep learning (you'd be surprised how many bad driving habits are exposed each time)
It only costs $220 for a 1/2 day session in Morgan park.

Lakeside Laps V19 - 29 September 2013

I let you pass on the main straight as you appeared to be going for the 1/4 mile record (an inane stupid americanism), you then banzied at least one car under braking going through the kink in the carousel. That is for wheel to wheel racing, not even the sprints allow this!
I was prepared to let it slip as you were relatively new to happy laps at lakeside but for you then to post about avoiding stupid or dangerous overtaking, pot, kettle, black?
I bring the Exige out to play, as it is a decent gap between events for me and happy laps is a good chance just to drive the track. If I wanted too, I could nail every corner and pretend I could drive better than I can. Fortunately I remember that this is 30mins of road speed driving around Lakeside.
Drive within your capabilities, or get some lessons and take part in the sprints / time attack / hill climb / DTC.
Also, I attended the first several of these happy laps so am not new to happy laps. I also could have come along in my V8 ute when I didn't have my golf but I know that ruins it for everyone else like once before.
So yes, my rant was also due to the fact that I became frustrated because people do not adhere to the rules. Ask my passenger, another forum member, and he will also back me up in saying the gaps being left weren't big enough and the track was very crowded due to the 6-8 cars nose to tail for most of the session.

It's only 10-12 cars at a time and no speed restriction, divided into 4 groups: A, B, C & D. They do monitor each driver and car capabilities and group the person accordingly.
It only costs $170 for the half day and is a lot safer for those $$$,$$$ cars in term of the gaps between cars.
Remember, insurance does not cover your cars on a race track, so if it were me in such car I would not be comfy to have cars right behind me in the corners over and over again.
TimeAttack - Home
Often, people in highly powered cars but take corners very conservatively and take the long straight as a 1/4 ruin others enjoyment in a lower powered cars who do enjoy corners. That's my observation in race tracks locally, Sydney and even on the Nurburgring. ie: egos is not an easy thing to surrender.
I second the value of track and training days - I have been to several. Always good value.

Besides, we can't speak about cars without referring to their drivers. Andretti in a Barina would destroy me if I was in an F1.
I'll just place this bit of education right here:

Don't ask me what I think. I just might tell you, and Machine, you'll need a bigger bag.
I'm out for this one and the next couple.
Maybe my wife and I will see you all again at Christmas if we make it back from Hawaii.
We'll be out walking the lava floes of Mauna Kea. Should come back with some awesome shots, and very warm feet.

Okay, main list has been updated with a few on the reserve list.
I will be seeking details of the car's as well for the people who haven't provided this info.
On the day i will have a list of rules and forum names of atendees that i will require you to tick you name off to make sure we all have an understanding of how to play nice and have fun out there.
I am also looking at the variety of cars we have now and trying to get some more info from Lakeside on the hot laps session which may be more suitable for a few of the more modified happy lappers.
I'll also echo what Nat said and recommend that people who want to push their cars harder should look into the sprint or general practice sessions as they may be more appropriate for your needs.
There are now quite a few in our group who should seriously look at upgrading as the power/speed disparity is getting very noticable (TTS, worked R's, Al's GTI etc)
General practice is $80 for the morning and is very good value for money, it is actually better value than happy laps when you consider the amount of track time allowed.
Keep in mind that happy laps was always meant to be a way to get people interested in how their car performs in a track type environment and not a cheap replacement for sprints.Last edited by team_v; 06-08-2013, 08:59 AM.

If you haven't been there before I'm sure you will love it. The volcano tours on foot across hot lava is something I will never forget. They do tell some stories about a newlywed couple straying from the designated track to look at the waters edge, lava snapped and the couple boiled alive. But do enjoy, it was awesome when I did it about 15 years ago.
