I think it's great that we're getting interest from outside the VW scene and we all like to check out the other metal, though my opinion is that that shouldn't be at the loss of an active VWWatercooled member. There's others to cater for that event.

My other concern whilst on the soap box is the variance in performance between FWD/AWD and RWD. It's been a common experience that RWD driven cars aren't at the same pace through the corners, though nail the straights resulting in some irritated drivers (myself inclusive on occasion). As the variety of cars increases, so does the inherit risk of varying performance attributes.

The other thing is (yes I'm a pain in the arse), has this guy just signed up and posted in here without following forum decor and posting as a new member in the introdutions? Does he own your car, own his own euro or just joining to drive yours? I remember when these days started and it was for forum members to experience their cars in a safe way at a safe venue under controlled conditions.

From other posts it seems people have started to get a bit annoyed at the on track behaviour. Simple thing is, if someone is behind you for a lap, let them go next time down the straight, no harm, no foul. There is plenty of track for everyone and it makes sense to avoid stupid or dangerous overtaking manoeuvres which I have seen recently due to either A: frustration or B: not understanding the concept of Happy Laps.

Sorry if it sounds like a rant but Nat has the right idea, slow down and find you bit of track if you are getting frustrated and can't overtake.

I would highly recommend Timeattack sessions for the SLK55 & R8 or even the Supra. On QR Raceway track where you can enjoy long straight speed better. Lakeside is designed for corners and is the most dangerous track in Australia.

It's only 10-12 cars at a time and no speed restriction, divided into 4 groups: A, B, C & D. They do monitor each driver and car capabilities and group the person accordingly.

It only costs $170 for the half day and is a lot safer for those $$$,$$$ cars in term of the gaps between cars.

Remember, insurance does not cover your cars on a race track, so if it were me in such car I would not be comfy to have cars right behind me in the corners over and over again.

Often, people in highly powered cars but take corners very conservatively and take the long straight as a 1/4 ruin others enjoyment in a lower powered cars who do enjoy corners. That's my observation in race tracks locally, Sydney and even on the Nurburgring. ie: egos is not an easy thing to surrender.

The HL session yesterday was like trying to get into Boondall for pink concert.

Earlier this year and in December last year, they were the best Happy Laps where everyone went at similar pace, kept the gap safe and excellent track etiquette was present.

Yes, we (the existing contributing forum members) are happy to invite newbies (both track experienced and P platers), BUT things don't work out well whenever there is a high powered car with a driver who has no clue about being kind to others and being considerate (there have been a few in our Happy Laps and I personally don't respect them unless they improve and behave). Again that's my observation and personal experience.

Bearing in mind, this is Happy Laps and the speed is restricted because we don't wear the appropriate PPE and other many things, BUT this is the place where we (the existing Happy Lappers) do enjoy every month doing corners at enthusiastic pace (not full Sprint pace or speed) in a safe (not so safe like yesterday due to a number of factors) environment and enough gap to anticipate the uncertain driver behavior of the car in front (unless the driver in front is known to have excellent skills and is a veteran on the track).

While you have your rant, please then allow me to express concern at your overtaking under braking going into the carousel. I let you pass on the main straight as you appeared to be going for the 1/4 mile record (an inane stupid americanism), you then banzied at least one car under braking going through the kink in the carousel. That is for wheel to wheel racing, not even the sprints allow this!

I was prepared to let it slip as you were relatively new to happy laps at lakeside but for you then to post about avoiding stupid or dangerous overtaking, pot, kettle, black?

I bring the Exige out to play, as it is a decent gap between events for me and happy laps is a good chance just to drive the track. If I wanted too, I could nail every corner and pretend I could drive better than I can. Fortunately I remember that this is 30mins of road speed driving around Lakeside.

Drive within your capabilities, or get some lessons and take part in the sprints / time attack / hill climb / DTC.
