  • Sydney GTG/cruise - your thoughts.

    Hi guys.

The route I propose is one that I believe has been organised before on the Vortex, but personally is one that I would like to drive through. It's called the Grand Pacific Drive, and it basically is a drive through Royal National Park, then down the coast via Lawrence Hargrave Drive through Sea Cliff Bridge to reach any of the beaches down the South Coast. There's beautiful scenery to see so shouldn't be a bore for the family, and the roads are moderately twisty to keep the drivers happy too.

Anyway, that's my plan so far. It's more of a post to get things started, get the ball rolling so to speak, and because the Vortex recently had a similar cruise down, this is still open for suggestions on other routes. I haven't decided on a date either, but there is a GTG on the 2nd of February so preferably I'd like to see this go ahead late February, just to get the hype up and give people enough time to get a day off and whatnot.

Google Map of the route here: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&hl=e...UTF8&z=14&om=1

Note with the route on Google Maps - it stretches down pretty far but we could stop at any of the beaches along the road. The "fun part" of the cruise basically ends just a bit after Stanwell Park where Sea Cliff Bridge is.

Oh, and my reason for choosing this was that Sea Cliff Bridge is kinda Sydney's (weak) answer to the GOR But still, it looks fantastic:

Looking north along the Seacliff Bridge towards Coalcliff and Stanwell Tops.

Looking towards the Clifton end of the bridge. I was extraordinarily lucky with the brilliant early morning sun: ten minutes later, grey clouds covered the sky.

And a slideshow of pictures on Flickr:

its a great run thru the natio. even better spirited so ive heard...... lol

that seacliff bridge looks great, but ends in a matter of 2 minutes which is the only downfall on it imo! argh! it looks awesome in the photos but it ends so quickly! ... pitty cant block off the whole thing and line up the cars!

we usually dont go all the way down to it these days, usually come back the backway towards avon dam etc giving a bit more of a quick run!

theres a k-valley run soon actually too
            What’s behind you doesn’t matter..

imo the southerly routes dont have enough "driver" style driving... it all ends too quickly. up north wiseman's and old pac i find are more fun... just throwing it out there.

old pac is great, we did it on the weekend with eurocca forums. its a very slow paced road now because of the large amount of police that patrol it and other holiday goers and cyclists not to mention motobikers .. thats the only problem these days, but i do agree!

Raymond I would be happy with this, Going down the Southcoast is actually better for my car I don't have any tread on my back tyres and I'm not willing to pay for new ones for a few months anyway, so I would be bringing up the tail with a slow sleepy pace.

Set a Date through mid Feb and we can start making arrangements.
I'm soo euro even my missus is shaved...
