  • No, he did the right thing. His front wheels were pointing left and he let the car slow down. That's all he could do. That corner is where they were talking about during the briefing. A very recent tragic accident occurred during a race. According to Doug of Queensland Raceways, Lakeside kills more people than any track in Australia. Respect it.

Also, they shouldn't have been alllowed out in that rain.
Windscreen wipers on fast would mean even I wouldn't go out there.

I only used mine as a manual single swipe and we were taking it pretty easy comparitively.

      • I don't think rain is the issue. Proper tyres and car set-up can allow a vehicle to perform beautifully in the wet with a skilled driver at the wheel. But, sadly, people overestimate their abilities and Lakeside is the worst place to do that.

I think the tyres are the main issue.
I know the last 1 or 2 sessions before i got mine replaced i would have traction issues if it were wet, fortunately it was dry so i never had to worry about it.

Booked in March and April as availability is extremely limited at Lakeside for the next 3 months, new thread will be up soon as we don't have long to wait and i need to get numbers (SUPER EXITED!!!!!!!!!)

          • Yup, QR in the wet can be quite a laugh, even for the ham fisted driver. LS - a few laughs mixed with apprehension.

I know that, i just think there would be quite a few people who go out there without appropriate tyres and that mixed with speed and rain can cause an issue (i.e. when it rains in motorpsort they still go quickly but have designated wet weather motorsport tyres, most people here will just use their regular road tyres or the semi slicks they rolled in on.)

                • Copied straight from the French's consent to speed and re-ignite bit of common sense:

I understand that the ‘on-track’ activity at this ‘Happy Laps’ day may involve my vehicle being driven at greater than usual speed and intensity and that normal ‘Roadworthiness’ standards may not be adequate.
I am aware of the condition of my vehicle and I verify that it is in fit condition for the intended use.

Absolutely. I wasn't arguing, just adding to the discussion. We're in agreement

Probably. But it will be a slow transition. I'm looking at the RCCQ model in terms of safety and signing waivers. I'm also interested in including an education component, specifically utilising the racing line and emphasising driver etiquette. I know it's happy laps, but things like that are important in my mind and only make things safer and more fun at the same time. It can't hurt, in other words, and for some people, happy laps will be a springboard to other things like sprints, track days, racing, etc., so they will have a leg-up. (I'm also looking at organising track days...) For others who aren't interested in any more than happy laps, they'll still have a good time.

Am I a pedantic control freak? Yes I am! (That's why they call me Machine)

                          No worries.
Just didn't want to step on your toes by organising March and April :p

The driver training stuff is a good idea but it gets very expensive, we thought we had a good deal at Lakeside last year for $75 but it turns out that was just for the trainer, you had to take part in the sprint ($200) and then get your licence and helmet ($35) so it ended up being like 300+ for the 4 x 15 minute sessions and even then you would only have the trainer for 1 of them and everyone decided it wasn't worth it.
