  • Here is part 1 of onboard footage from my car. Yes I know the positioning of the camera was crappy, I'll try mounting it on the dash or outside the car next time.

Part 2 and 3 will be coming.
I know it's an automatic but it does not blip the throttle like in the DSG equipped cars when downshifting, so I tried blipping the throttle myself and it worked pretty well. I just need to learn heel-and-toe more, or do left-foot braking instead.

Also, my lap-times were ultra-h0b0 around 1:21 seemed to be my best (using media player hehehe).

Thanks man I will admit I do not push anywhere near as hard at Lakeside compared to QR. Purely because of the barriers being so much closer to the track haha. I only got to 150km/h and then backed-off to around 145km/h.

I thought it was pretty cool to see the Abarth biting at the heels of the TTS.

          Yeah my bad.
I put a set of new brake pads on and didn't bed them in before the event... So any distance I made on corner exits and straights, I lost under brakes.

Sure made a few butt-pucker-up moments when the brakes didn't respond coming into the Karrussell

          • Here is part 2 of the onboard footage. Youtube finally accepted something a tad over 15min! :O

You may or may not hear a few 'certain' words/phrases from me when attempting to overtake the beetle in the final few laps of the video. (13:10 onwards)

            Enjoy!
PS. Dad should be available for the next happy laps to get some in-action shots again like at QR.

Haha, I had a similar experience a few years back in my Subaru, one car I had brakes, the next nope. They came back but I'd only do about 100kms on them prior.

I run a gtech for lap times. Would like to run some of the phone timers next to the gtech to compare, and also the QR laptimer. I haven't yet done sprints with it. Some graphs below. I found I was consistently low-mid 74s laps. With my old man with me and the kumho's (KU31's) not being great in the firstplace, but turning jelly after 2 hotlaps, there's perhaps .5-1s in it, but there goes the margin for error. Certainly not 3 secs to play with Stephen, darn it.

Max speed for the day was 166.85. Interestingly max speed last time was 166.99. Perhaps need some brave pills to crack 167, lol.

My g's were also much the same. this time maxing .78 under braking. Last time was .83 (to be technically correct, that's negative g's due to braking). Forward g's are ~.4.

              • Here's my in car. Only the second time I've been to Lakeside so I have zero interest in lap times at this point (not to mention trying for lap times at an untimed event with no helmet doesn't seem all that bright) - just giving the car a bit of a run & enjoying it. I was in the black XR5, bone stock on original (shagged) tyres, brakes, everything.

Sorry about the rattly noise - part of the mount was rattling. I think next time I'll get rid of the fish eye too, you lose perspective/sense of speed a bit.

                • Tremolo, your video appears inverted (unless it's just me)

re the lap timing. As long as everyone shows respect to each other on the track and drives within their and the cars capabilies, using a lap timer is irrelevant. Timing the laps and videoing is essentially of the same mentallity, it's done to review and enjoy after the event.

I get a kick from interrogating the data obtained moreso than watching the video - as much as my girlfriend detests hearing about both approaches

For some reason the preview appears inverted but the actual video is upright.
I have my video at home but i was going pretty casual out there with the new layout and the "must drive restricted speeds" talk we got early on so it wasn't very exciting.

I think we found the sweet spot where we had just the right amount of cars out there so you could get a good run half the time.

Yeah the vid was recorded upside down (forgot I left the GoPro in the inverted setting) so I flipped it in youtube but for some reason the preview didn't update. The vid is fine though.

                      • cool, I'm at work so didn't check the video.

As for software to load to youtube, I have the video format in mpeg4, what software do you use to upload to youtube? I downloaded AVS video editor, but yet to work out how to use it. I'd like to edit it down to say 10mins. The video is from a gopro, but that's my dad's so I have the video on a DVD. Any tips from anyone would be awesome.

I just use windows movie maker, really simple to use although there aren't many effects or anything special. Also, if you are going to upload a long video try to make it under 15min when possible.

                          • I usually just edit mine to start when we roll out and stop when we roll in.
Since it's about 28 minutes if you cut it in half you end up with 2 x 14 minute segments that youtube can handle.

                            • Thanks. I'd tried windows movie maker first but for some reason it didn't recognise the mpeg4 or whatever format. Will have another look.
