Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Cheers. I must say it sounds rather wicked at higher rpms. Starting to sound a little like the rally car. I'll post the links here if you are interested.

Hey - yeah, does sound a bit like a rally car - it will be good to hear it for real!
I like the photoshopping of your number plate - very high tech!
Did you see the multi test of the DS3R along with Renault, Mini, Polo, Corsa by EVO mag in one of the thumnails at the end of your vid? - interesting to watch; the tester "comes around" to the DS3 at the end of the test.

haha cheers. The photoshopping was high-tech eh haha. Yes i did see the video by EVO - I must say for myself, I would take the DS3R or the Polo GTI just because they are more practical than the others and have the best of both worlds of being sporty and a comfortable daily driver. I will be getting DS3R graphics in a couple of days (depending on postage) so my car should look a bit more sporty (rather than being the rather slow 120VTi haha).

Interested, but out of curiousity, what kind of terminal speeds do the 2.0T machines (like my 147TFSI Jetta, which is stock) reach on the QR circuit? I'd heard people say QR is much harder on brakes and tyres because there's lots of high speed and then hard slowing for hard cornering ...

Hard to say for stock but mine starts to get short on breath around 170km/h (that's in 5th gear though)

Would have said 170ish as well - my Clio 172 was getting to 160 on the straight (provided I got a good run on) before having to ease off. Remember though - this is Happy Laps. The speeds Clay and I are talking are from sprint sessions.

Nice save. Does that mean Lakeside is faster? Ive heard people were getting 180-190 at Lakeside (in the sprints of course)...

What kind of speeds are considered 'acceptable' at happy laps? (newbie at this stuff)

There are a couple of spots left mate - did you want 1 or 2 spots? If 2, is there a name for the 2nd spot?
                              Cheers

I know at Lakeside, the guy doing the briefing said no more than 120km/h out the back (my car couldn't really do much more though anyway). But I know on the straights it was no speed limits or anything and even with my slow car i hit ~155km/h.
