so did people actually make it to the BBQ? i was following tim, who was behind josh - all three of us were lost after roundabouts and u-turns, but i had to bail anyway. hope those who DID make it have a rad time whilst i read psychology text over the next 3~ hours
never had so much scrapage in my life, and im not even that low!
thanks boys for rocking up, and thanks ryan for organising - always good to have a yarn and a laugh, as well as a bit of a brap. thanks josh and tim for installing my coilies - much better car to drive in the twisties now
cheers!
p.s. for anyone who's even moderately low, or who likes being upwards of 40% of the limits of grip around corners, DONT take the road that i was referring to earlier in the thread - me and josh had to idle down that road at <10km/h, it was that bumpy and irregular - josh was scraping his subframe on the road all over the place, and i wasnt much better. just lucky no other cars came up the other way (only 1.5 lanes wide).
p.p.s. great to meet some new faces, and i hope to see you at the CRUISE TO DOVW tomorrow morning!Last edited by Buller_Scott; 05-11-2011, 08:07 PM.

so whilst you guys were chillaxing in eltham, i was learning that i had actually undergone classical conditioning today:
when i had my old suspension setup, sharp undulations in the road were actually neutral stimuli, as they elicited no relevant reflexive response from me, given that my car was too high for the neutral stimuli to affect adversely or otherwise.
however, that slow bumpy road down from kinglake "classically conditioned" me in that:
- the bumps (neutral stimuli) now, thanks to my lower suspension, result in me scraping (my car's personal "unconditioned response")
- the now unconditioned stimuli (bumps), leading to their unconditional response (scraping), over time, resulted in my subconsciously associating the bumps directly with a scrapage result.
- the more i scraped, the more the bumps evolved into a conditioned stimulus by association with their unconditioned stimuli, such that eventually, the bumps became conditioned stimuli, or stimuli which consistently produce reflexive, instinctive responses (aka me slowing the fck down).
acquisition, as a process, could be said to be represented by my having driven down that road, and in the process of acquisition, i had also been classically conditioned in such a way that now on, i'll likely be stimulus generalising every time i see bumps - that is, i'll slow the fck down, as opposed to stimulus discrimination, which would be to dismiss any prior stimuli and treat each section of bumpy road on a case by case basis, which WONT be the case, because i'll fck my oil pan, haha.
in order for "extinction" of my now conditioned response to bumps to take place, i'd have to drive sections of road like that, numerous times WITHOUT my car's unconditioned response (scraping) reproducing itself....
but for now, i've been classically conditioned to be **** scared of bumps.
amazing what you can learn when you add "day of driving" and "reading psychology texts" haha!

G'Day guys, thanks for the great day yesterday. Sorry I bailed just as you guys got one of the three BBQ's going. Wife was in trouble with her bung knee. Wanted to be there today but think I might be pushing it with the boss.
Great cruise with a bunch of funny guys. Thanks to Scott for giving me visual indicators via his exhaust tip when to boot it coming out of a tight corner! Never thought a cruise would ever be held up because a couple of cars were too low!! Was good for a stir and a laugh.
Anyway thanks for organising the day. I had a great time and a lot of laughs.Golf R, Rising Blue, 5 Door, DSG and some extra fruit.
Viagra on 4 wheels !!
