man.... you must have been HATING the last few weeks in melbourne... it feels like it never fcking stops raining, every single day it does the "oops a little bit of dribble even after you've been shaking for 10 seconds" thing.

did you drive your VT on the cruise to DOVW last year? i'll have to come and say hi.

Nah, i only purchased it after i broke the gearbox in the mk1. I think last year i came in my mates VX SS as he sold his mk2 (which was at DOVW) and my mk1 was still in progress. If i don't have to give a few people a ride i might come in my gf bora instead.

Its a fair bit of driving for us, if it was just me and the missis it would be ok but it might be 4 or 5 people and i don't feel like spending 2hrs driving with my knees on the dash to avoid a few haters lol

I'll be there for the Sunday drive to the event. I've been here for 2+ years now, so might as well meet a few of you.

                        i'll be there, for sure.

as for the dub addiction BBQ, can't make it - gotta drop my kid sis off at the airport because she's going to japan tomorrow

i COULD come, but it'd mean i could only stay there for half an hour or so before leaving, so i'll just wait till saturday's cruise.

and not to be a bitch, but on the map, in the middle of the map at the top, right about where the word "humevale" is, that squiggly section - has anyone taken a test run of that bit? because the one time i went to do that road in the night time, i was coming from whittlesea end (king lake is the closest twisties to where i live, apart from yarra bend), and i turned off C726 to go up that road, and i ended up abandoning it - the road wasnt very well sealed, one way bridges, and there was debris and sht everywhere as far as i recall.

if you stay on C726 however (the road above the one im talking about on the map), that's an EPIC twisty section with big, fast corners, newishly paved, etc etc. one lane going down, but two lanes going up. first time i did this road with a small cruise, we ended up doing 3 laps of that section of road, it's that good.

                        just food for thought...

Good work Scotty. Maybe have a chat with Ryan at the start of the cruise.

I probably wont have a chance to acess a computer tomorrow so guys dont forget to get down to the Dub Addiction BBQ at 7:30pm, BYO food and drinks, donations are welcome to movember too.

Saturdays crusie meets at 3:30pm for a 4pm take off at Chirnside park bunnings.

Sunday Croydon McDonalds maroondah 8am for later departure to Yarra Glen.

hey guys, i was just thinking about the drive route for saturday - in particular, the stretch of road near where the word "humevale" is. my mistake - it's not C726, it's C725, whittlesea-yea road.

i had abandoned the drive a few months ago, and then i remembered i did the drive the other day (along whittlesea-yea rd) and i just remembered - where the proposed route turns off the main road, to go down into the squiggly bits, is the FIRST place you can do a u-turn if you're coming up from whittlesea, and you want to turn around to do laps of that stretch of road.

unfortunately, it's gravel, and i suspect it's more of a fire trail / local service road than anything else. i checked on google satellite, and this is what i found - please open images in a new tab/window for a better idea:

the entrance (we'd be turning off the main road, and taking the road that's just to the left of the on-screen writing):

just a little further down that road, it gets sketchy:

the road's washed out completely even further down (so either gravel or sealed 100 years ago):

and two shots of a bit of road with labelling, and then without:

sorry to pile that on you ryan and james, but looking at the map got me thinking, and at least there's more notice this way.

i cannot emphasise, in my opinion, how awesome the road is if we dont turn off at that point, but rather stay on whittlesea-yea rd... it's not tight like reefton etc, it's a 100kmh zone with 70kmh indicated corners (as opposed to 35kmh and 45kmh up at reefton), but damn... it's a lot of fun. nice, too, going over the top of the ridge:

just thought i'd let you know

                              Thanks for that one Scotty,

Yeah I remember doing an epicly twisty, rather protected (tree canopy wise) section that was a turnoff from the main road somewhere up there, I must have picked the wrong road!

I'll get onto my mate who knows it well and find out which road it is because it was an absolute corker.

I'm sure there'll be some deviations on the day anyway so we'll mostly play it by ear.

EDIT: I can confirm that it is the right road. I've driven it before and it's by no means a difficult road. It's sealed for the entirety of it and passes through the township of Humesdale (a decent long stretch of road that would be suitable for a photo op perhaps?). There is a fire trail that runs somewhat parallel to the sealed road which we definitely won't be taking. If for some reason the road is littered with debris then we can always do a quick u-bolt back on to the ridgeline road.
